Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a Catholic college preparatory high school in Essex, Maryland, has a 2024-2025 opening for a full-time Resource Teacher The Resource Teacher will be on the ground floor of helping to create the Franciscan Program, providing targeted support for students who need help with executive functioning skills, self-advocacy, and work completion. Our Lady of Mount Carmel School invites, teaches, and nurtures children and adolescents in a hospitable and familial program which is academically excellent and rooted in Catholic teachings. The school develops graduates who are life-long learners, who behave ethically, value the dignity of others, and work for social justice. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students on developing executive functioning skills to include organization, planning, prioritizing tasks, study skills, etc. The candidate should be passionate about supporting inclusion in an academically rigorous environment as well as qualified to teach differentiated, small group instruction to support a variety of content areas. As a key member of the larger Student Support Services team, the candidate should be excited to not only teach, but also work collaboratively with a larger team.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support/instruction for students, both in push-in and pull-out environments.
  • Observe and assess student performance, maintain records, monitor student profiles, and share information with the team.
  • Work with teachers to help them understand the diverse needs of students by providing effective and varied instructional methods and materials.
  • Read and summarize neuropsychological evaluations and ensure students receive recommended accommodations and classroom recommendations.
  • Communicate students' learning profiles, strengths, and challenges with classroom teachers.
  • Coordinate with outside specialists when necessary, regarding psychoeducational evaluations, and collaborate with tutors.
  • Schedule and meet with parents, and or outside support, on a regular basis, to discuss progress.
  • Administer and coordinate individual and grade-level assessments and standardized testing when necessary.
  • Analyze assessment data and develop goals for students' progress.
  • Participate in team meetings and parent-teacher conferences as necessary.
  • Teach at least one class to be determined by administration.
  • Support teachers with best practices and appropriate use of accommodations in the classroom.
  • Participate in on-going professional development opportunities to stay current in the field of special education/executive functioning support.
Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
  • A valid, issued State of Maryland teaching certificate, special education certification, or experience working with middle or high school aged students who are neurodiverse is preferred.
  • Experience managing a special education caseload to include IEP/504 Plans
  • Experience on the latest best practices in developing executive functioning skills in adolescents
  • Exemplifies a deep belief in and commitment to educational excellence for all students
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with staff, students, and families
  • Commitment to the mission of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School
