St. John Regional Catholic School seeks energetic, compassionate, and creative Aftercare Assistants. Our assistants engage in play-based instruction through movement, music, manipulatives, and make-believe. The Extended Care staff will be accountable for the care and supervision of children during the period after the school day has ended. Their primary responsibilities are the safety and well-being of children in their care.

Providing low student-teacher ratios will facilitate exploration, curiosity, and problem-solving. These skills support the development of early literacy and mathematics foundations and a child's social and emotional growth, preparing them for the rigors of 21st-century learning. We believe in utilizing intentional play, play-based activities with a purpose, in our aftercare.
Essential Functions

• Understands, supports, and implements the school philosophy
• Knowledge and implementation of state licensing rules and regulations
• Communicates clearly, yet with empathy to students, parents, and co-workers
• Enthusiastically and warmly greets and engages children
• Organization skills must be apparent in the classroom.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding students, their families and other employees.
• Responsible for the safety and active supervision of students at all times.
• Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and school administration
• Comfortable working in a faith-based environment
• Comfortable receiving and following directions from the teacher, director, or administrative team leaders.
• Works cooperatively and collaboratively with staff members
• Responsible for assisting with accounting for children, attendance, behavior coaching, instruction, supervision, snack preparation, and distribution, opening lunches, etc.
• Able to work indoors and outdoors during all types of weather

Position Qualifications

• Minimum Age of 18 years
• School employment is from August through June. (10 months)
• Aftercare hours are from 2:30 pm till 5:30 pm.
• Attendance at professional development and other event as determined by the program directorMinimum of a High School Diploma and 90 hour child care certification
• Experience in a Catholic School setting preferred
• An appreciation for young students and their families
• Willingness to support the mission of The Catholic Faith and the Archdiocese of Baltimore Catholic Schools
• Current First Aid / CPR certification preferred
• Before hire, must complete medical exam, fire extinguisher, epi-pen training, and any additional training as required by licensing of the school
