REPORTS TO: Director of Music
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish in Bridgewater, MA has an immediate opening for Cantor/Leader of Song. We value the important role that the cantor/leader of song plays in our liturgies - actively engaging with the congregation and encouraging them to sing so as to express our love for God through music. We see this as an opportunity for you to grow your skills as a leader of song as well as grow in your faith.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Cantor is responsible for preparing and singing psalms, acclamations, hymns that require solo passages, and leading the assembly in song.
• Comes to Mass with the selected music prepared, in appropriate attire, and at the time appointed by the Music Director to ensure a timely start to the liturgical service.
• Keeps current with trends and directions of sacred/church music in the Catholic Church
• Works cooperatively with parish staff as well as other musicians and maintains professional attitude and behavior when dealing with clergy, parish members and the community in general as a representative of the Catholic parish community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A practicing Catholic with prior church cantor experience ideally, and the ability to read music. Some formal vocal training/experience and the ability to play another instrument is a plus.
• Familiar with the rites of the holy Roman Catholic church and is comfortable singing both traditional and contemporary hymnody.
• Ability to sing at least one of six weekend liturgies and holy days or other services that may arise throughout the liturgical year. Additional Masses are possible for qualified candidates.
• Ability to rehearse at the discretion of the Music Director

This is a paid position and reports directly to the Director of Music.
