The Parish Internal Auditor will provide on site reviews of parishes, schools, missions and institutions in the Archdiocese of Denver. Provide business consulting to pastors, finance councils, and parish staff. Reviews focus on proper accounting and financial management, internal controls, compliance with legal and archdiocesan requirements and to provide management recommendations for improvement. Travel to parishes within the Archdiocese of Denver will be required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

• Plan and perform internal audits and reviews.
• Prepare reports of results.
• Financial statement analysis.
• Present results to the Pastor and Parish Finance Councils.
• Consult with and assist pastors, principals, parish administrators and bookkeepers on matters relating to accounting, finance, legal issues, income taxes, management, budgeting, cash flow, and other business issues.
• Investigate unusual items appearing in parish financial reports, conduct investigation of parish finances when misappropriation is suspected.
• Assist with the development of training and in service programs for parish and school personnel on accounting, finance and management.
• Research issues and topics and draft summary memorandums.
• Be informed of current issues affecting accounting, management, taxation or ministry.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director.

REQUIREMENTS:

• CPA or MBA and equivalent accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of accounting (journal entries, reporting, account analysis, etc.) required.
• Knowledge of Microsoft word and Excel or equivalent word processing and spreadsheet programs required.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required;
• Integrity and conviction and the ability to foster trust and respect of fellow employees, priests and parish staffs.
• Independent and decisive while engaging in consultation and cooperation, be able to take initiative rather than passively accepting.
• A strong understanding of and dedication to the ministry of the Catholic Church.
