Archdiocese of Detroit is Hiring a Facilities & Maintenance Manager Near White Lake, MI

Objective: In coordination with the parish business manager, directs and oversees all
aspects of maintenance including major projects for remodeling, building,
and improving the physical plant and grounds to insure a safe and efficient
program.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  1. Supervision of Janitorial Contractors: Instructs janitorial contractors to assure the church and other parish or school buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. This is accomplished by monitoring the mopping and vacuuming of all floors, cleaning bathrooms, classrooms, parish and school offices, the church, parish hall, gym and meeting rooms. Establishes daily work assignments and approves the cleaning schedules.
  1. Security: Contacts the alarm company, supervises alarm company for repairs and updates, and responds to all building alarms and fire system alarms. Maintains fire system and fire extinguishers.
  1. Supervises Lawn Service: Maintains contact and oversees the mowing of parish, school and rectory lawns and annual spring and fall clean-ups. May on occasion contact and oversee parish ground landscaping. Supervises outside contractors. 
  1. Heating and AC System: School Office and Church Schedule control of heat or AC per schedule. Maintain and monitor camera system.
  1. Maintenance of all Buildings, Systems and Structures: Maintains and operates all mechanical systems including plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning, fire alarm and sprinkler systems. Calls and supervises outside contractors.
  1. Works with Volunteer- As directed by parish business manager.
Typical Job Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for maintaining the grounds in a clean and safe manner. Responsible for mowing the back areas behind the church, playground and parish hall.
  1. Responsible for snow removal with the parish truck, shoveling, blowing walkways and salting the sidewalks before the opening and closing of school, before parish masses, the rectory, and day and evening programs. This includes weekends. This function may need to happen more than once a day.
  1. Maintaining sprinkler system at the parish, rectory and school.
  1. Maintaining parish truck, tractor and other equipment.
  1. Performs minor maintenance of the rectory, church, school, an/or other church buildings. Accomplishes this by doing light carpentry work, changing and ordering light bulbs, keeping water softeners at the rectory in working order and filled with salt. Other minor repair work at the parish, rectory and school at the discretion of the parish business manager, pastor and school principal.
  1. Provides other general assistance as needed through moving and/or assembling of furniture, setting up the chairs and tables, assisting with gym flooring we needed in the facilities as requested. Hauling and moving items and picking up parts or other equipment as requested by staff.
  1. Assures the collection and disposal of trash and garbage. Supervises and maintains contact with janitorial on their part in garbage and trash removal. Supervises and maintains contact with trash removal contractor and environmental recycling contractor.
  1. Maintains an inventory of supplies for lighting and cleaning supplies and orders supplies as requested.
  1. Maintains accurate snow logs:
-Maintains equipment maintenance schedules
-Checks fluid and fuel in generator; does weekly test on electrical to generator
-Changes heating/air filters 2 to 3 times a year
-Checks all motors monthly for fluids
  1. Attends archdiocesan required workshops such as “Protecting All God’s Children”, and the “Asbestos Check and Maintenance”, and maintains all archdiocesan required credentials.
  1. Snow plowing in winter after work hours, for rectory and supervision of snow service.
  1. Schedule can be altered at any time due to outside contractors requiring access to facilities or assistance.
  1. Emergency on-call 24-7, 365 days a year.
  1. Is provided with a cell phone and required to answer and respond to all calls. Personal phone calls are allowed in an emergency only.
  1. Christmas Mass and Easter Mass set-ups as requested.
  1. Historical Chapel and cemetery repairs and set-ups as requested.
  1. Verifies contractor activities.
  1. Maintains channels of communication with parish business manager, pastor and principal.
  1. Maintains clean and safe environment in work areas.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Facilites & Maintenance experience necessary.
  • Physically able to bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders. 
  • Satisfactory completion of an asbestos awareness training course within sixty days of employment and successfully complete refresher training yearly.
  • Satisfactory completion of a blood borne pathogens training course within sixty days of employment and successfully complete refresher training yearly.
  • Attend other training and certification programs as directed.
  • Must be able to read and understand job and product descriptions.
  • Must be punctual, dependable, honest, and reliable.
  • Must pass a criminal background check before employment.
  • Must have or obtain a Protecting God's Children Certificate from the Archdiocese of Detroit, prior to employment.
  • Has the ability to follow oral or written instructions.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds or more.
  • Willing to work weekends and over regularly scheduled hours when needed, especially during holidays, special events, and emergencies.
  • Maintain productive and professional relationships with other St. Patrick staff and Faculty.
  • Performs other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned by the Priest in Solidum, Moderator, Parish Business Manager, School Principal, or Mission Support Director.
