POSITION STATUS: Full-Time, 12-Month
REPORTS TO: President
START DATE: September 1, 2024
POSITION SUMMARY: Loyola High School, a Catholic high school in the Jesuit tradition, for
African American males in the city of Detroit, is seeking an experienced Director of Marketing &
Communications. The director plays a crucial role in raising awareness, engaging stakeholders,
and securing support for the school's mission and programs. This position requires a
combination of marketing, communications, and event coordination skills to effectively promote
the organization's mission and drive its success.
The Director plans, produces, and oversees the execution of marketing and communication
activities for Loyola High School. These activities include, but are not limited to, developing
materials to deliver the organization's messages to key stakeholders including donors, alumni,
parents of alumni, potential students, LWEP sponsors, media, and other supporters.
The specific duties and the decision-making authority related to such assignments are as
established in the working relationship between the President and the Director.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing and Communications:
•Collaborate with the President, the Director of Advancement, the Director of Admissions,
and the Director of LWEP to develop and implement a Master Marketing Plan for Loyola
that will effectively market Loyola's history, mission and future to all key stakeholders
resulting in higher awareness of Loyola, increasing donor revenue and full enrollment.
•Develop and manage the Communications Calendar to ensure timely execution.
•Prepare written materials such as marketing copy, business communications and press
releases.
•Be responsible for accuracy in information and proofreading of all distributed materials.
•Create engaging content and be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the overall
effectiveness of Loyola's website and social media channels.
•Design marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, and signage.
•Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing efforts and adjust strategies as
needed.
Fundraising and Development:
•Assist in planning and executing annual fundraising events, donor cultivation gatherings
and special events.
•Develop marketing plans and collateral to support existing and future fundraising
activities.
•Assist in developing the messaging and collateral to support donor related activities
(Annual Appeal, New Donor Welcome Packs, etc.).
Digital & Print Marketing:
•Create, edit and manage content for all Loyola communication channels including
electronic communications (website/social media/electronic newsletters) and printed
communications (Landmark/President's Report/etc.).
•Manage social media accounts and develop content calendars to maintain a consistent
online presence.
•Monitor social media trends and engage with followers to enhance brand visibility and
engagement.
•Utilize email marketing tools to create and distribute newsletters and promotional
materials.
•Create content for online advertising.
Event Coordination:
•Cultivate and manage relationships with media outlets to promote awareness of Loyola
programs and activities to the general public as well as potential supporters and
prospective students and families.
•Coordinate logistics for large scale events, including developing, planning, and executing
the run of show and relevant programming to support as well as event communication
and registration.
•Develop event materials such as invitations, programs, and signage.
•Provide on-site support during events to ensure smooth execution and positive
participant experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
•High enthusiasm for the mission of Loyola High School.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills including: writing, proofreading and
ability to clearly communicate information effectively and persuasively.
•Ability to develop timelines and meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
•Excellent personal demeanor with the ability to maintain strong working relationships
both internally and externally including external media contacts and vendors.
•Excellent organizational skills including meeting coordination and publication scheduling.
•Desktop publishing abilities including spreadsheets, PowerPoint and basic graphic
design and layout.
•Model, articulate, communicate, and implement the philosophy and mission of Loyola.
•Foster a sense of community and pride within the school among faculty/staff, students,
and parents/guardians.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or Communications or related field/ or 5-7 years
experience in the Marketing or Communications field.
•Proficient in social media marketing techniques.
•Experience in developing marketing plans, materials and collateral.
•Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator or similar digital design programs.
•Experience coordinating logistics for events, including planning, communication,
programming and registration.
