TITLE: Associate Superintendent for Secondary Schools
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
STATUS: Regular Full Time, Exempt
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
Expressing the vision of Catholic education for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Archbishop Cordileone believes that “Catholic schools should be a place where people come to know, love and serve Jesus Christ and that school should be an extension of the ministry of the Church.” The Associate Superintendent supports this mission by helping Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of San Francisco carry out the ministry of Catholic education, supporting the integration of Catholic faith and culture into the life of our schools. In particular, the Associate Superintendent for Secondary Schools is primarily responsible for providing leadership support and development, pedagogical formation, and curricular assessment and enrichment to high schools within the Archdiocese. The Associate Superintendent works collaboratively within the Department of Catholic Schools and with the Director of Catholic Identity Formation & Assessment to implement the Mission and Goals of the Department of Catholic Schools.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support Principals in the Four Archdiocesan High Schools and Approximately Nine Elementary Schools
● Work closely with the Director for Catholic Identity Assessment & Formation on strengthening & measuring Catholic Identity at the high school level
● Support high school principals and nine elementary school principals in meeting their day to day responsibilities as Catholic school administrators
● Troubleshoot student and parent issues in conjunction with the Human Resource & Legal departments of the Archdiocese
● Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and archdiocesan policies and procedures.
● Provide consultation to secondary school administration and faculties regarding curriculum, instructional materials, and resources
● Organize and attend meetings with the Secondary Curriculum and Professional Development Committee
● Organize High School President/Principal Meetings
● Coordinate the annual High School System Review
● Coordinate and participate with elementary and secondary articulation sessions.
● Attend all High School Admission Group meetings as the Archdiocesan representative.
● Support secondary schools in their recruitment of teachers and leaders in collaboration with Office of the Archbishop and the Office of Catholic Identity Assessment & Formation, especially for staff in the departments of theology and campus ministry
● Serve as liaison on behalf of the Department of Catholic Schools to independent Catholic high schools within the Archdiocese of San Francisco
2. Manage WCEA/WASC Secondary Accreditation Program
● Coordinate the activities for high schools applying for the WCEA/WASC accreditation/certification
● Responsible for selection and training of chairpersons and teams.
● WCEA Commissioner for secondary schools of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and represents the high schools at WCEA meetings (2 annually)
● Serve as a Chairperson for teams in other dioceses
● Serve on committee to read the visiting team’s evaluation reports and make recommendations to the WCEA
● Conduct training for leadership teams of high school faculties undergoing the WCEA/WASC process
● Evaluate end of the year WCEA/WASC reports and provide feedback to schools as they move forward with their E3/SE Action Plans
3. Coordinate Relationship between Department of Catholic Schools and the San Francisco Archdiocesan Federation of Teachers, Local 2240 Union
● Plan, in collaboration with the Union president, two meetings per year with the Presidents of the four Unionized high schools and the Union leadership
● Serve on the Administration's negotiating team during CBA negotiations
● Liaison between the Superintendent and the Union leadership
● Coordinate Union Grievance and MOU procedures on behalf of the Administration
4. Support the Efforts of the Superintendent and the Department of Catholic Schools
● Work with DCS team and school principals/presidents to develop collaborative opportunities between elementary and secondary schools
● Participate in the process for annual school visits
● All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools
Qualifications:
● Must be a faithful, practicing Catholic in good standing and an active member of a parish community, is engaged in the sacramental and prayer life of the Church, and upholds the Church’s teaching on all matters, especially relating to the education and formation of young people
● Familiarity and desire to collaborate with strategic partners in the renewal of Catholic education, such as the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education (ICLE), Duc in Altum (DIA), Partners in Mission, National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA), Cardinal Newman Society, California Catholic Conference, and more
● Minimum three-five years as a Catholic secondary school administrator
● Capacity to manage multiple tasks and take the initiative to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision, time, and resources
● Skills in the application of computer software and technologies to support teaching and learning
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Excellent relationship skills
● Ability and openness to give a joyful and courageous witness as a follower of Christ and faithful son/daughter of the Church.
Pay Range: $140,000-$155,000 annual salary.
