The responsibilities or the duties of a Senior Interior Designer are to lead interior design projects to completion as the primary touchstone for clients, while managing and developing team members. This employee is a professional with an expert knowledge of interior design and decoration, and is experienced with leading and managing teams.

The most common responsibilities of the Senior Interior Designer comprise the following activities:

  • Concept: The Senior Interior Designer creates concepts for interior design, decoration and event projects, looking at precedents, sourcing inspiration images, and forming a curated concept presentation.
  • Design: The Senior Interior Designer prepares handmade and digital drawings, elevations and perspectives.
  • Documentation: The Senior Interior Designer drafts construction documentation for interior design projects, manages schedules and specifications for design and decoration projects.
  • Customer service: The Senior Interior Designer answers queries and records communication with clients and suppliers. He/she resolves the queries and complaints or escalates the problem to the relevant company director as required. The senior designer actively pursues networking and lead generation opportunities to contribute to the company client base and directly informs the financial benefit of the company. 
  • Team management: The Senior Interior Designer works to build, develop, and coordinate the design team to effectively and efficiently perform design related tasks and increase productivity. The Senior Interior Design sets objectives, delegates tasks, identifies problems, and resolves any conflicts within the team.
  • Project management: The Senior Interior Designer plans and organizes the company's resources to move design projects towards completion. 

Essential duties of a Senior Interior Designer are:

  • Respond to RFPs and develop project proposals
  • Manage client and contractor expectations through project process
  • Ensure project and all deliverables remain on schedule
  • Support brand quality by reviewing and approving design concept and design development documents and ensuring that project execution meets brand standards for function, performance and style direction/design
  • Prepare and/ or review FF&E schedules, selections and budgets
  • Review 2D and 3D presentation renderings
  • Review construction documents as related to interiors
  • Lead client design presentations
  • Maintain a record of all meetings and actions
  • Lead project installations and photo shoots
  • Product research
  • Site, showroom and client visits as required
  • Bending, lifting and carrying samples up to 10kgs
  • Team management and mentorship
  • Participate in strategic growth and business development effort
  • Pursues and secures aligned clients and project work that demonstrates financial benefit of the company.

  • Excellent time management, communication, collaboration, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills, and the ability to delegate work and educate all team members to enable them to work independently
  • Communication skills, poise, and confidence; capable of presenting to senior business leaders and executives
  • Have a friendly and engaging personality.
  • Experienced user of Revit, Photoshop, SketchUp, InDesign and Microsoft Office.
  • Possess a strong eye for aesthetics and interest in creative industries that expands the company's creative output.
