Seeking a Board Certified Anesthesiologist to take on the role as Medical Director for the Anesthesia Services.
Requirements:
- MD or DO
- Current and in good standing Licensure with South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners
- Board Certification
- American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required. ALS Recertification is required every two (2) years.
Experience Requirement:
- Extensive Anesthesia Medical Director experience, preferably in practices with multiple locations
- Must possess a minimum of 5 years experience in healthcare, preferably in hospital-based physician services and/or healthcare consulting.
- Minimum of 5 years experience and a working knowledge of healthcare systems management and financial oversight for clinical operations.
- Will display consistent behavior that enhances the public image of the organization as evidenced by professionalism and interactions with peers, customers, etc.
- Will be able to use various computer systems and applications, ability to plan, organize and supervise and will exercise initiative, sound judgment and problem-solving techniques in the decision-making process.
- Will have excellent communication skills.
Required Abilities:
- Must demonstrate current competency in the clinical privileges extended.
- Must be proficient in the operation of anesthesia equipment.
- Current knowledge in anesthesia practice.
- Must exhibit basic knowledge of safety in a health care facility.
- Knowledge and practice of universal precautions in patient contact is required.
- Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with clinical and administrative leadership, surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and nursing staff.
Perform a comprehensive history and physical exam to develop a patient-specific treatment plan
2 Preparing and administering the proper dose of anesthesia
3 Monitoring patients vital signs and their dose of anesthesia during medical procedures
4 Evaluating patients progress before, during and after medical procedures
5 Oversee the patient in the post-anesthesia care area (PACU)
6 Assess if the post-anesthesia patient is ready for discharge or transfer and educate the patient and family regarding the anesthesia recovery process
7 Provide patient assessments regarding a patient who requires a pain management plan
8 Perform the insertion and management of an advanced airway
The Anesthesia Services Medical Director provides overall oversight and management of clinical operations for surgical services including all anesthesia staff including Anesthesiologists and CRNAs. Provides oversight for all environments requiring anesthesia at GMH, WCH and Outpatient locations including GI, OB and Surgical Services. Ensure compliance with anesthesia protocols and practice standards and hospital policies and procedures. The Medical Director evaluates all Anesthesiologists and CRNAs providing guidance and support. The position includes approximately 80% Administrative and 20% clinical responsibilities.
Effectively collaborates with third-party anesthesia management company, sr. leadership team, medical staff leaders, surgeons and physicians, and surgical services leadership team. Creates strategies to maximize OR efficiency and institute new services. Maintains a supportive, productive clinical environment where team members thrive and can focus on providing outstanding patient care.
Provides general and regional anesthesia techniques to care for a wide variety of patients from pediatric to geriatric population in all areas of anesthesia specialties. Administer appropriate anesthetics in consultation with the supervising physician in a manner consistent with standards of practice. Demonstrates knowledge and competence with the use of anesthesia machines and equipment, provides patient monitoring during transportation, maintains adequate patient records, participate in the teaching activities of the department, participate in a variety of continuing education programs, and demonstrate a high level of professionalism in the performance of duties. Provide resuscitative care with medications and airway as indicated.

The facility is a hospital-owned primary care practice in Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, Myrtle Beach and Georgetown, SC with established primary care physicians and advanced practitioners (NP and PA).
