Job Description
The Office of Research Integrity & Assurance (ORIA) within the ASU Knowledge Enterprise is seeking a Research Compliance Coordinator to support one or more of the functional areas within ORIA by conducting research compliance reviews, coordinating, and managing applicable processes, determining level of review required, and supporting oversight/reporting processes to ensure compliance with all applicable university, sponsor, ABOR, state and federal requirements, standards, and regulations.
Candidates are required to provide proof of either U.S. citizenship, Permanent U.S. residency or classification as a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3)
Working Environment
  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Flexible work options may be available.
    • Alternative work schedules can include staggered start and stop times.
    • Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice-president-level approval is required.
    • Remote work is an arrangement where the employee spends less than 60% of their regular workweek at a regularly assigned ASU work location. Executive vice president-level approval is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required and three years year of related experience Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Office of Research Integrity and Assurance (ORIA) was established as a resource for investigators and the university to achieve and maintain ethical principles and compliance with federal, state, and university regulations governing research.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in reading, understanding regulatory documentation, and interpreting, analyzing, and applying federal, state, and local regulations, along with University rules and regulations to daily operational policy and procedures.
  • Evidence of the ability to think critically, logically, and analytically and problem solve.
  • Evidence in being self-motivated, results oriented, takes initiative, and exhibits broad thinking.
  • Experience with time management and prioritization skills with ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Experience in working well independently as well as contribute to team efforts; able to effectively respond to routine situations involving potentially several university constituencies.
  • Evidence of collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, writing and by phone.
  • Experience with computer skills with knowledge of the MS Office Suite.

Essential Duties
  • Maintain solid working knowledge of Conflict of Interest (COI) regulations, policies, and guidance documents. This position will primarily work within the COI functional area of ORIA.
  • Provide regulatory support for the processing of compliance reviews.
  • Act as administrative resource to ASU researchers and staff to provide assistance, guidance and counseling during compliance review and management activities.
  • Consult with staff, faculty, and others to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, and answer questions about area of assignment to ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory controls including, but not limited to sponsor, ABOR, university, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare agenda and material to meet distribution deadlines; perform follow-up as needed.
  • Record meeting activities; maintain files of expectations, discussions, agreements, and outcomes.
  • Respond to questions raised during committee meetings on an as-needed basis; research information as appropriate/needed for a follow up.
  • Review materials with Committee Chair, compliance area management lead and ORIA Asst. Director for accuracy/completeness.
  • Monitor and conduct reviews of existing and new disclosures. Assists with reviewing and implementation of forms, policies and standard operating procedures as needed. Investigate, interpret, and provide guidance to faculty and staff on regulations related to the area of assignment.
  • Identify areas of focus for education topics and provide outreach training/workshops/seminars for the University community on policies, procedures, and system enhancements for area of assignment.
  • Inform compliance area management lead/Asst. Director of issues raised by regulatory committee or investigators.
  • Maintain all applicable records and files.
  • Provide solutions to problems presented by team members and recommend changes to methods or procedures to management, utilizing knowledge of best practices and principles.
  • Develop and prepare routine area specific reports and contribute to department information gathering initiatives as they arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing information from which answers can be readily determined.
