Arizona State University is Hiring a Research Specialist Near Phoenix, AZ

Job Description
The ASU Data and Evaluation Team works with service members and veterans across the country by creating adaptable solutions that build upon evidence-based prevention approaches. This project's efforts focus on upstream suicide prevention and assist with the implementation of the Arizona Veteran Suicide Mortality Review team. This position is responsible for working with the team of stakeholders by performing data collection, analysis, and interpretation, requiring initiative and judgment based on knowledge and understanding of scientific theory. In addition, this position will request and gather data, review information, and build case narratives to produce sub-reports on individual veterans.
Primary responsibilities include processing and tracking records requests, organizing incoming records, constructing case narratives for the review team, and other activities to support the implementation of the Veteran Suicide Mortality Review and Postvention initiatives.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances into practical interventions to improve health outcomes through education, research, and service. Essential Duties
  • May monitor and coordinate work with collaborating organizations.
  • Analyzes data and writes research progress reports including summarizing data and writing of papers for publication; assists in writing reports on one or more aspects of the project.
  • Performs administrative functions such as assisting in projecting budgets and procuring documents, supplies, and equipment.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts library and computer searches for research or veteran data, some of which may include specialized archival research; modifies, adapts, or varies standard procedures to meet the needs of the project.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of statistical techniques and computer data systems including establishing data coding formats for future scientific research data collection.
  • Assists in judging the validity of data obtained and recommends additional data requests and/or modifications.
  • Creates and manages databases for veteran suicide mortality review which includes setting up database and associated data entry programs and retrieving data from database for purposes of analyses or data review.
  • Designs and modifies questionnaires or other data collection or sampling instruments or data summarization methods, procedures or reporting formats.
  • Assists in the development of written operating procedures and performs quality control checks to ensure procedures are followed.
