Arizona is Hiring a Chief Broadcast Engineer Near Tucson, AZ

  • Ensure proper operation of all facilities, including transmitters, translators, control systems, audio routing, playback systems, studios, and all related equipment in the on-air, production, and transmission signal chains. 
  • Ensure station is operating within FCC parameters and policy as specified in Parts 73 and 74. Maintain station licenses (AM/FM/ITFS/ATSC1/ATSC3).
  • Direct the day-to-day operations and technology staff to ensure reliable and effective operation of Television and Radio broadcast system as well as current and future IP based delivery systems. Helping recruit and train the next generation of broadcast RF and media engineers, and instill the understanding of the standards, best practices, and regulations around FCC licensed broadcasting. 
  • Oversee and manage all engineering and facility contractors.
  • Training of all transmitter operations personnel to a skill level that renders those employees knowledgeable and capable of performing their duties in full compliance with F.C.C. rules before assuming their responsibilities.
  • Training of all non-transmitter operations personnel to a skill level required for the position by the organization and accepted engineering practice.
  • Help design the Public Broadcasting facility of the future. 
  • Evaluate technologies and vendors in the ATSC3, HD Radio and 4K editing spaces for best in breed products and services.
  • Help create new workflows and solution to an ever-evolving media distribution landscape.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot issues on broadcast-specific software and operational services for news and programming.
  • Maintain and keep in proper working order all transmission and studio equipment.
  • Ensure that the automated processes at the studios are operating properly. 
  • Purchase of all capital and non-capital items necessary for proper operation of the facility.
  • Work with CTO on engineering and technology budgets, overseeing all broadcast and technology expenditures to ensure they conform to the stated plan and goals of AZPM.
  • Identify technology opportunities to increase organization effectiveness and efficiency internally and externally.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of F.C.C. rules pertinent to television and radio broadcast technical requirements as found in Parts 73 and 74.
  • Be a self-starter and able to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment, working both independently and as a part of a diverse team.
  • Be project oriented, organized, detail oriented and able to show a list of previously executed projects from concept to completion.
  • Demonstrate the ability to pivot and manage changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Be willing to expand their knowledge with emerging broadcast industry concepts/technologies.
