Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Instructional Designer will work with faculty and staff to design, develop, and deliver technology-based educational media and interactive learning experiences. They will collaborate and coordinate with faculty and staff who are tasked with providing quality distance education courses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Working with faculty and staff to provide training and assistance with course development.

Developing and assuring quality standards for online courses.

Managing individual and group projects.

Mentoring faculty on distance learning pedagogy and the use of technology to enhance teaching.

Designing online modules, incorporating a variety of instructional tools, including HTML pages, graphics, streaming video, and audio.

Providing online instructor and student tutorials, as well as face-to-face training sessions and workshops.

Coordinating and facilitating administrative aspects of course development, delivery, and support.

Assist with planning and coordinating materials with the course instructor(s) and development team.

Assist in the prioritization of individual and program-wide design projects and proposals.

Performing any duties as assigned by Academic Affairs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The position requires knowledge of current educational practices for online course development, which include relevant course management systems, cloud computing/social media applications, relevant productivity and multimedia software, web development, and curriculum design for distance learning courses. Other requirements include:

Ability to plan, manage, produce, direct, implement, and evaluate online course production.

Ability to work as a team member, lead small groups, and manage projects.

Understanding of online and Hyflex pedagogy.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a minimum of a Master's degree in education instructional design or related discipline.

Significant experience in instructional design and a focus on online curriculum building/web-based course development within an asynchronous network environment.

Experience working collaboratively on educational courses in asynchronous, synchronous, and Hyflex modalities.

Experience working with learning management systems, such as Blackboard Ultra.

Familiarity with current learning technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience providing face-to-face and online training and workshops.

Experience with creating instructional videos and media and supporting others.

Ability to stay current with rapidly changing technologies and innovations.

Understanding of adult learning theory.

Experience teaching online within the last three years.

Working knowledge of Instructional Design, Learning Theories, and Adult Learning Theories.

Familiarity with Quality Matters or other established quality criteria.

Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:

Work is done in the library and in consultations with faculty at their offices.

There is no physical demand for this position beyond the ability to work with computers.
