Closing Date Substitute School Nurse Job Description Job Description: In the absence of the School Nurse assigned to the building, the Substitute School Nurse will: Provide preventative routine and emergency health services to facilitate the student's optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Identify problems and disabilities and provide such services as health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems. Support the education process by working to assure the health of the students. Qualifications:
Must hold an active and unencumbered Registered Nurse License for the State of Tennessee.
Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred.
Minimum three years clinical experience, school nurse experience preferred.
Current certification in CPR through the American Heart Association.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to perform skilled nursing care such as catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, insulin pump skills and ventilator care.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Promote and protect the optimal health status of school-age children.
Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
Provide health education and anticipatory guidance to students, and families in making decisions that affect health.
Communicate with parents about student illness and changes in condition.
Document health visits and communication pertaining to student health in the Electronic Health Record.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Director of Student Services, School Nurse Supervisor or Supervisor of Special Education/Accountability.
Knowledge of (including but not limited to):
Principals, practices and current trends of professional nursing.
Principles and practices of the special field of school nursing.
Current practices for common childhood conditions and chronic diseases: asthma, allergies, diabetes, and seizure disorders.
Typical growth and development of school-aged children aged 3 to 21.
