Fishing Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY :

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Bus Driver at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Conduct fishing lessons for summer camp participants for the week of June 10th-June 14th.
• Teach basic fishing techniques, including casting, knot tying, baiting, and fish handling.
• Educate clients on local fishing regulations and ethical fishing practices.
• Demonstrate and oversee proper fishing techniques during trips
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
• Creates a safe environment in which others feel welcome and respected.
• Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
• Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
• Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information, such as gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.
• Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
• Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the YMCA (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies);

makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.

• Applies all YMCA policies and procedures and exemplifies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• Minimum of 18 years old.
• At least one-year work experience as a fishing instructor.
• Knowledge of the rules / guidelines related to safety around water and fishing.
• Desire and ability to work with children
• Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.
• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
