Arlington Public Schools is Hiring a Teacher Specialist - Instructional Support Near Arlington, VA

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is 1.0 FTE l ocated at the Syphax Education Center in the Office of Academics. Reports to the Supervisor of Instructional Support.
Serves as Specialist for the Office of Instructional Support for Arlington Public Schools (APS).
Supports schools and the K-12 system with the implementation of the Arlington Tiered System of Support (ATSS) focused on student success through professional learning with school staff to implement high quality Tier 1 instruction, interventions, and other educational strategies, techniques, and procedures RESPONSIBILITIES: Knowledge of (1)
Virginia/APS subject matter or content area knowledge (2) advanced concepts, principles and practices of instructional planning and delivery, (3) digital instructional resources, and (4) learning/educational project management. Knowledge of, and skill in applying, (1) the theories, principles and practices of child development and elementary education (K-5) or secondary (6-12); (2)learning theory, teaching techniques and instructional technology; (3) and intervention strategies. Knowledge of, and experience with, Response to Intervention (RTI) or Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). Provides on-site and county-wide professional learning to collaborative learning teams in support of high quality Tier 1 instruction Provides on-site and county-wide professional learning on academic interventions, universal screeners, and inclusive practices. Knowledge of, and experience with, adult learning theory. Experience with coaching educational professionals and providing job-embedded professional learning Promotes, advocates for, and helps implement, evaluate and improve student learning Analyzes lesson design, instructional delivery, teaching methods, classroom management, and student performance data. Helps train APS staff on ATSS data system and creation of intervention plans. Assists collaborative learning teams (CLTs) to analyze data to identify additional support or services needed, trainings, coaching and progress monitoring Provides consultation to school teams on student cases to help determine the most appropriate level of support and how to monitor progress. Collaborates with the Office of Academics core instruction, universal screenings, inclusive practices, and common formative assessments and strategies. Performs related duties, as required or assigned. EXPERIENCE: At least five years of progressively responsible experience in education as a teacher or an educational specialist at the K-12 school level. These five years must include at least three years of service in a public school system as a teacher or an educational specialist, and provide evidence of (1) skill in (a) teaching at more than one K-5 or secondary grade level, (b) teaching a diverse student population, and (c) leading other educators in K-12 instructional matters, and (2) skill in collaboratively managing change in educational programs, (3) skill in working with multiple stakeholders having diverse perspectives, and (4) skill in helping manage educational programs/projects/initiatives. Master’s Degree in Education or another field related to the essential functions of this class of work may be substituted for up to two years of the five years of experience required in Minimum Requirement 2 above. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Mathematics, Science, History/Social Science, English/Language Arts or another field related to the essential functions of this class of work, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training that totals 4 years.
