ARM Consulting is partnering with a local nonprofit organization that focuses on storytelling and policy initiatives to eliminate the stigma associated with sickle cell disease (SCD). We seek an experienced, well-organized, compassionate, and dedicated individual to join the team as the Director of Community Programs, Ambassador and Faces Programs.

Position Description:

The Director of Community Programs will provide leadership for the Ambassador Program and Faces of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Storytelling Program. This role requires independent problem-solving, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple team members. The Director will maintain and expand the programs, work closely with the SCD community, and foster new and existing relationships.

Program Management (50%): This role will lead activities related to the Faces of SCD Storytelling Program and the Ambassador Program. The Director will strategize recruitment methods for programs, review stories prior to publication, and develop and report program metrics. The Director will identify topics for and plan the priority topics meetings, recruit speakers and external subject matter experts, and strategize and implement program growth plans. The Director will co-plan the Ambassador Policy Forum in coordination with the Government Affairs team and maintain the registry of Ambassadors and program participants.

Communications (30%): The Director manages staff communications, oversees content development, and builds editorial campaigns for social media accounts; oversees the management of monthly content for all platforms in Sprout Social; manages social media accounts as needed; contributes to blogs, white papers, and/or other publications. The Director will contribute content for the monthly newsletter and act as a final reviewer, design toolkits for the Ambassador program, and communicate complex topics through social media posts, one-pagers, and toolkits for internal and external use.

The Director will lead select research initiatives, including identifying themes, conducting literature reviews, compiling findings, writing reports, and summarizing main ideas.

Organizational Support & Management (20%): The Director will supervise 2-4 employees. This role will collaborate with the advocacy team in program development and planning, provide Ad hoc research support (listening sessions, participant recruitment, report writing), and participate in writing grant applications, fundraising, and other business development tasks, as needed.

The full-time and hybrid position requires at least two days of in-person work at the Illinois office. This role requires approximately 30% travle to attend conferences, offsite meetings, and meetings with remote staff.

Minimum Experience Level:

  • Ten (10) years related work experience
  • Previous management experience
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Staff supervision staff, team building, and cross-departmental leadership

Required Skills/Certifications

  • Working knowledge of the SCD community or similar communities to understand community dynamics
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and follow-up
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external management
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking to large audiences
  • Demonstrated ability in writing in multiple formats
  • Fluent in CRMs
  • Desktop computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of multiple social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) or interest in learning
  • People management

Desired Skills

  • Comfort with public speaking
  • Experience with or ability to learn Sprout Social
  • Fluent in Canva or other graphic design engines or ability to learn
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Public Health, Communications, Management, or equivalent

Tools and Technology

  • High-speed internet for work-from-home days
