Army West Point Athletic Association is Hiring an Assistant Director, Football Video Operations Near West Point, NY

Summary

The Assistant Director, Football Video Operations assists in the management of the Football Video Unit through producing and editing practice and game videos, producing all recruiting videos, weekly and year-end motivational and highlight videos, acquiring necessary content (e.g., footage at games, practices, and workouts) for official social media accounts while staying current on emerging video-graphic methods, technology, and equipment. The Assistant Director must uphold the standards of excellence established by the Head Football Coach. All the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the United States Military Academy (“USMA”), Army West Point Athletic Association Inc. (“AWPAA”), the American Athletic Conference (“Conference”), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”).

Scope of Impact

The responsibilities outlined in this job description are integral to the success of the AWPAA Football program as video support is a key factor in providing resources for coaches and players to have the necessary tools to compete and win on an NCAA/FBS level. The assistant director has a vital impact on the current team’s motivation through video highlights and the program’s ability to recruit future players. This position will be responsible for executing the job duties according to already established policies and standard operating procedures. The campus visit is one of the most critical components in the recruiting process, so the Assistant Director has immense ability to impact the on-field success of the program. Disregard of NCAA rules can have a similar negative impact.

Level of Decision Making

The Assistant Director exercises a preliminary level of decision making in recommendations made to the Director of Video regarding organization, logistics, discipline, and staff management. The Assistant Director exercises tactical decision making regarding gameday operations and technology needs. Higher level decision making will happen through the Director of Video and/or Chief of Staff. The employee must maintain a high level of professionalism, moral and ethical character, and be a role model.

Success Factors

Success in this position will be evaluated by the Supervisor on the employee’s performance in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: Commitment to AWPAA Mission, Vision and Values; and supporting the AWPAA Strategic Plan and Priority Results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

40% Highlight Films

  • Shoot, edit and create motivational videos (e.g., Friday Night, Daily Practice, Season and others as requested). 
  • Create or direct the creation of other video requests to include weekly instructional videos for coaches, social media videos and individual player highlights. 
  • Recommend new equipment for highlight films to stay current with competition.

30% Media Production

  • Work with Director on content creation, creative development and execution of the Friday night highlights.
  • Work with the Director of Football Operations and hotel staff during team travel.
  • Responsible for helping create social media content that is an appropriate representation of the USMA brand and is compliant with USMA and AWPAA policies and standards. 
  • Coordinate with gameday network producers to gather necessary content materials. 
  • Produce the season highlight film and video needs for the year-end banquet dinner.

15% Recruiting Support

  • Coordinate with Player Personnel department to provide video support during official and unofficial visits, junior days, or any other recruiting event. 
  • Produce content as necessary for social media and direct messaging to recruits.

10% Manger Organization and Leadership

  • Work with Director to recruit, hire, train, schedule, and manage a team of cadet film volunteers.
  • Create daily manager duties to ensure the mission is successfully accomplished with little to no mistakes. 
  • Responsible to evaluate individual and unique talents of the cadets and manage them accordingly. 
  • Have inputs on building the right film team for gameday execution. 
  • Create a balance between professional development of cadet film volunteers and a safe atmosphere that promotes manager retention.

5% Other Duties

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

This position must be able to handle the physical demands of office hours and recruiting events. 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Frequently moves boxes/equipment weighing up to up to 30 lbs. around the office and across campus for various events.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with recruiting staff, coaches, and cadets to enhance their performance in recruiting. Must be able to exchange accurate information with all parties and develop trusting relationships.
  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Travel 

This position must be able to travel to all away games as well as local hotels the night prior to home games. Occasional travel with team functions and recruiting events on campus and in the local vicinity of West Point to capture media content.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; a combination of education and relevant experience may substitute.
  • 0-2 years in athletic department or related fields. 
  • Camera and computer management experience.
  • Must have intermediate understanding of XOS Thunder systems. 
  • Must be proficient in Adobe CC Suite and Adobe Premiere, After Effects.
  • Must have knowledge in Photoshop, Windows and iOS operating systems.
  • Must be familiar with camera operations of both Sony and Panasonic camera systems.
  • Knowledgeable in all the Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with coaches, administrators, Cadet-athletes, prospective Cadet-athletes, parents, etc.
  • Takes initiative, hardworking, ability/willingness to figure out solutions to problems independently, creative.
  • Extremely organized, detail oriented, self-starter and intrinsically motivated.
  • Strong management skills; proven ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and ability/willingness to follow NCAA rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of PTZ cameras and remote camera systems.
  • Drone experience.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Pay Range

$45,000 - $55,000

This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries that AWPAA believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted position. AWPAA expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would AWPAA consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
