Position Title: Bilingual ESL Coordinator
Wage/Status: Salary/At-Will
Reports To: Superintendant
School: As assigned
Terms of Employment: 210 Days
Primary PurposeProvides support to teachers, campus leaders, and district administrators aimed at improved outcomes for English language learners at the elementary and secondary level. Refines curriculum that supports the teacher in meeting the unique needs of the bilingual and ESL student; analyzes data to monitor and measure student progress; collaboratively plans, models, and co-teaches effective sheltered strategies that promote second language acquisition; determines formative measures to provide timely feedback to teachers and administration regarding student progress; provides professional learning aimed at the development of the bilingual and ESL teacher; manages and evaluates resources that support the implementation and delivery of the TEKS Education
Certification
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Bilingual and/or ESL Certification required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation as it applies to the district’s bilingual, ESL, and advantage language programs
  • Knowledge of bilingual and ESL program models, practices, techniques, and principles
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and strategies
  • Knowledge of research validated instructional practices, TEKS, ELPS, TELPAS, and STAAR 5. Skill in developing, presenting, and facilitating professional learning sessions
  • Skill in disaggregation and interpretation of data
  • Skill in implementing long range and immediate goals
  • Skill in developing and sustaining positive relationships with all stakeholders
Experience / Other RequirementsFive years of experience as a classroom teacher in an ESL or Bilingual classroom preferred
Major Responsibilities And DutiesInstructional Management
  • Provides coaching, modeling, and program guidance aimed at professional growth for classroom teachers through workshops and demonstrations pertinent to second language acquisition methods.
  • Consults frequently with campus administrators, instructional coaches, and classroom teachers on matters relating to quality instruction aimed at the EL.
  • Supports and assists building principals and other administrators and /or supervisors in implementing the Dual Language, ESL, and advanced languages programs.
  • Fields questions from all campuses regarding EL matters and provides response to inquiry in a timely manner.
  • Secures and organizes translators for Spanish translations for curriculum maps and CAs. 6. Works with the director to ensure high quality instruction for the K-1 Bilingual and ESL summer school program.
  • Supports campuses with LPAC compliance as per TEA guidance.
  • Provides teachers and administrators support and guidance on integrating the ELPS and TEKS.
  • Monitors TELPAS collection of writing samples and audits 10% of samples to ensure validity and reliability of ratings.
  • Monitors and collects data on district common assessments (CAs), universal screeners, and other program specific screeners/assessments and uses the analysis of the data to determine support from demonstrated student needs.
Professional Development
  • Designs, supports and facilitates professional learning that reflects district and national professional development standards in regard to the successful teaching EL students.
  • Provides training for language proficiency assessments as required by the TEA, Rosetta Stone, and other computer formats used to assess and support ELs
