Ascend Mental Health is an outpatient mental health clinic located in Baltimore, Maryland, is seeking a licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our team as our Medical Director. We provide high-quality mental health services to our clients through a comprehensive and individualized approach. The OMHC Medical Director is a part-time position (minimum of 20 hours per week) responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the OMHC medication management program. Collaborating with the CEO and administrators, the Medical Director will prioritize high-quality patient care, and stay updated on mental healthcare trends.
Job Description:
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Ascend Mental Health, you will be responsible for conducting psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing care for a diverse population of clients. You will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans that meet the individual needs of each client. You will have an opportunity to work with children, teens, and adults experiencing various mental health issues including trauma, depression, anxiety, family/relationship issues, grief, and others. In this role, you will diagnose and treat psychological disorders, teach healthy coping skills, assist patients in addressing dysfunctional behaviors, and guide them through crises. Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee OMHC Medication Management Program
  • Provide valuable feedback during client case studies
  • Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing care for clients
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans
  • Provide medication management education and support to clients and their families
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in electronic health records
  • Participate in regular team meetings and case consultations
  • Be available on-site at least 2 days a week. 
  • Participate in meetings with internal departments (HR department for department hiring needs / disciplinary action / commendations, scheduling department, patient access department for intake/discharge audits, PRP for referrals and clinical reviews)
  • As needed basis, collaborate with external agencies on mutual client need
  • Complete sessions with scheduled clients via telehealth or in-person
  • Conduct meetings with clinical supervisors
  • Remotely or in the company’s office, conduct psychiatric focused evaluations, assessments and medication management to clients as scheduled. Document services rendered in Ascend EHR, utilize evaluation/management/psychotherapy treatment CPT codes as medically necessary. Typically, 1-2 clients are scheduled per hour.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in external and internal audits/surveys (Joint Commission/CSA/OHCQ) as directed by the supervisor.
  • Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement plans by completing periodic audits or other activities to ensure regulatory compliance and/or improve service delivery.
  • Responsible for following regulations of COMAR, JCC, any other regulatory body, and company policies/ procedures related to service delivery and documentation and co-facilitating orientation of all new hires to these as well.
  • Support the maintenance of a safe environment by participating in training and drills as requested.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
  • Provision of psychiatric and addictions focused evaluations, treatments and assessments to patients
  • Monitor and evaluate individual treatment plans and service modalities rendered by staff under your oversight with the goal of enhancing effectiveness, streamlining implementation, assuring quality and modal fidelity
  • Prescribe and manage medications for patients with psychiatric conditions
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care
  • Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment options
  • Conduct therapy sessions with individuals, groups, or families as needed

LEVEL OF EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess an active licensure with the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatric Mental Health (CRNP-PMH)
  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Must possesses a psychiatric mental health certification from a professional board such as the ANCC
  • Must have a signed medical director affidavit on file with the company upon hire
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health practice
