Our Am Law 200 law firm client seeks an associate with 2-4 years of patent prosecution experience to join their Intellectual Property department. Applicants must have an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in Chemistry.
They seek applicants with strong academic credentials and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the areas of medicinal chemistry, small molecules, pharmaceuticals, synthetic methods, polymer science and drug discovery would be useful, but is not necessary. A successful candidate who is not a registered patent attorney will be expected to take and to pass the USPTO registration exam within a year of being hired. Candidates are encouraged to review the USPTO eligibility criteria prior to applying.
They staff their clients’ patent matters leanly, affording agents and associates an opportunity for significant responsibility and excellent career development. They typically work one-on-one with partners, gain a depth of experience in a broad range of patent strategy, drafting, prosecution and diligence matters, and get immediate client contact. Such experience has contributed to the firm’s consistently excellent rankings in various national satisfaction surveys and industry recognition lists.
Compensation range is $220,000 to $300,000 commensurate with related experience and qualification. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
