Controls Engineer

Ascent AeroSystems is currently looking to hire an Controls Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on the design of our next generation high-performance coaxial drones. The ideal candidate is a roll-up-your-sleeves, high energy, collaborative UAS enthusiast who works well on a team and individually.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop control laws to maximize the performance of our coaxial rotorcraft.
· Work with aerospace engineers to develop an accurate simulator of the coaxial rotorcraft physics and subsystems.
· Perform analysis to support conceptual, preliminary and critical design reviews.
· Plan and execute flight tests. Analyze flight test data to validate and verify the control law design.
· Provide support to customers integrating their own payloads and/or expanding the capabilities of our coaxial unmanned aircraft systems.
· Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in planning, design and development of new products.
Minimum Requirements
· Must be authorized to work in the US.
· 5 years of post-graduate work experience working on flight control systems.
· Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
· Strong analytical skills.
· Strong background in flight dynamics.
· Experience with advanced control algorithms (dynamic inversion, model-predictive control).
· Experience with Python and C/C running on an embedded environment.
· Enjoys the challenge of solving complex multi-disciplinary problems in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong interpersonal skills; strong team player with customer focus.
Preferred:
· Familiarity with ArduPilot, PX4 or equivalent open-source autopilots.
· Experience tuning control systems for electric powertrains.
· Experience developing control laws for small rotorcraft.
· Familiarity with extended Kalman filters and other sensor fusion techniques.
· Part 107 License.
Some travel may be required to support customers, flight testing, vendor management, marketing and sales initiatives.
