Ascent AeroSystems is currently looking to hire an Electrical Engineer to join our team. This role will collaborate with engineering and operations to design and build the next generation UAS aircraft. The ideal candidate is a roll-up-your-sleeves, high energy, collaborative UAS enthusiast who works well on a team and individually. This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components and systems, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Work independently or as a team member to design, build, test and procure electrical hardware for autonomous vehicles.
  • Create detailed schematics and layout of printed circuit boards, ensuring proper signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal management.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to develop embedded firmware.
  • Plan and conduct thorough testing and validation of electrical systems and components, including functional testing, environmental testing (e.g., temperature, vibration) and production testing.
  • Help establish and then champion design and testing standards.
  • Integrate 3rd party components into products to enhance their capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in planning, design and development of new products.
  • Support flight-tests operations, marketing events and customer demonstrations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field of study and 5 years of post-graduate work experience
  • Must have experience with PCB design, schematic capture and layout (Altium preferred), component selection and design for manufacturing (DFM).
  • Must have experience prototyping and debugging analog and digital circuits.
  • Strong debugging skills through use of instrumentation such as oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers
  • Experience soldering and reworking prototype electronics.
  • Some experience with embedded systems design, microprocessor-based design and software development in C/C /C# would be ideal
  • Enjoys the challenge of solving complex systems problems in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills; strong team player with customer focus

Educational Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field with 5 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Able to conduct simple hand-calculations on loaded structures to approximate safety factors.
  • Familiarity with configuration management of parts and assemblies.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to UAS system engineering.
  • Project management experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience and interest in UAS or other robotics systems. Especially, experience with ArduPilot based systems.
  • Part 107 License
