ASK Staffing is Hiring a NON-IT-HR-Coordinator, Background Check Near Columbia, SC

Job Title: HR assistant
Duration: 6-12 Months contract
Job Location: Columbia, SC, 29223 (On-site)
pay scale is $17-$18/hr.

Job Description:
Duties:
  • Reviews background check screening to ensure cases are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Collects information and makes recommendations needed to adjudicate background check cases for final grading. Coordinates Form I-9 and E-Verify completion.
  • Performs other HR compliance duties as assigned.
  • 65% Performs background check duties. Reviews cases to ensure timely completion and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Collects information needed to adjudicate background check cases for final grading. Conducts interviews with candidates to review potentially derogatory information for the pre-adverse action review process required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Escalates cases as appropriate to ensure they are resolved timely. Makes adjudication recommendations to HR management.
  • 15% Ensures new hires complete Form I-9 and Employment Eligibility Verification (E-Verify) by the federally mandated deadline. Assists with reverifications by completing Section III of Form I-9. Provides access and trains other HR staff on the online I-9 and E-Verify systems. Coordinates I-9 completion for remote new hires.
  • 10% Provides additional compliance and audit support. Performs quality checks on internal processes. Gathers requested background check evidence and other information for internal and external audit responses. Researches and communicates findings as appropriate. Performs other compliance-related responsibilities as requested.
  • 10% Researches and responds in a timely and professional manner to employee, applicant, recruiter and management inquiries in multiple department email boxes.
Skills:
  • Good judgment skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective customer service, organizational skills. Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion. General knowledge of various employment laws and practices.
Required Software and Tools:
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Preferred Software and Tools: Previous experience with interviews, investigations and/or background checks.
Education:
  • Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Required Work Experience: 2 years experience in Human Resources. Preferred Education: Associate degree. Preferred Work Experience: Previous experience with interviews, investigations and/or background checks. Preferred Licenses and Certificates: Human Resources professional certification (e.g., aPHR, PHR or SHRM-CP).
