Job Description: Mental Health Community Support WorkerEmployment Type: Full-TimeJob SummaryThe Recovery Center of Kentucky's mission is to help individuals reclaim their lives from the disease of addiction to alcohol and other drugs and to reduce the incidence of addiction in future generations. We are an agency committed to quality gender-responsive, trauma-informed care for clients with substance use and co-occurring disorders. The Mental Health Community Support Worker provides essential support and services to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. This role focuses on enhancing the well-being and independence of clients through direct support, advocacy, and coordination of community resources.
Key Responsibilities
  • Client Support and Advocacy:
  • Establish and maintain supportive, respectful relationships with clients.
  • Assist clients in developing personal goals and strategies for achieving them.
  • Advocate for clients' rights and access to necessary services and resources.
  • Assessment and Planning:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify clients' needs, strengths, and challenges.
  • Collaborate with clients and other professionals to develop individualized support plans.
  • Regularly review and update support plans to reflect clients' changing needs and progress.
  • Skill Development:
  • Provide guidance and support in developing daily living skills, such as budgeting, cooking, and personal care.
  • Offer education and support in managing mental health symptoms and treatment adherence.
  • Facilitate social skills training and community integration activities.
  • Crisis Intervention:
  • Respond to crises in a calm and effective manner, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients.
  • Develop and implement crisis prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Coordinate with emergency services and healthcare providers as necessary.
  • Coordination of Services:
  • Connect clients with community resources, such as housing, employment, and healthcare services.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, social services, and other relevant organizations.
  • Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, progress, and support plans.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required by the organization and funding bodies.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Community Engagement:
  • Promote awareness of mental health issues within the community.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Participate in outreach activities and community events.
Qualifications
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, or a related field.
  • Certification in mental health first aid, crisis intervention, or related training is an asset.
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience working with individuals with mental health challenges.
  • Experience in community support, social services, or a related field is preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and crisis intervention skills.
  • Understanding of mental health issues and community resources.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
