Aspire Education is Hiring a Community Reading Buddies Program Manager Near Oakland, CA

About the Position:

Aspire Education’s flagship program, Community Reading Buddies (CRB), is seeking a Program Manager with a blend of educational experience, operational acumen, and relationship skills. The Program Manager plays a vital role in the success of the Community Reading Buddies program by overseeing the administration of CRB’s tutoring and mentorship program, which serves nearly 1,000 Bay Area students each year. The individual in this position will collaborate with a variety of team members to organize and facilitate high quality programming that closes the early literacy gap in the Bay Area. This role will report to the Executive Director.

About Aspire & Community Reading Buddies:

The mission of Aspire Education is to provide transformational educational mentorship for every student in the Bay Area. In service of this mission, one of Aspire’s core programmatic offerings is Community Reading Buddies (CRB), which improves early literacy outcomes by mobilizing Bay Area young adults to mentor younger students in literacy and ignite them with a passion for reading. In turn, our Youth Mentors are trained in social-emotional skills that prepare them to become successful, independent adults. Job Responsibilities:

Oversight of CRB program to drive positive student outcomes:

  • Overseeing daily operations and logistics of the CRB program.
  • Supervising reading sessions to maximize their effectiveness.
  • Creating and maintaining project management plans and timelines.
  • Recruiting and coaching CRB student volunteers.
  • Recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and continuous coaching of CRB staff.

Relationship management with a wide variety of stakeholders:

  • Building strong relationships with CRB student volunteers by engaging in frequent communication and providing support, coaching, and encouragement.
  • Partnering with parents and families of students as a representative of CRB.
  • Acting as liaison and representative of CRB for various partner schools and organizations to strengthen relationships with existing partners and seek out new ones.

Curriculum development, resource creation, and program evaluation:

  • Collaborating with the CRB team to identify and implement best practices across all reading sessions.
  • Synthesizing key programmatic elements to update program materials on an ongoing basis.
  • Collecting and analyzing program data to further refine programmatic offerings and share progress with key partners and stakeholders.

Miscellaneous:

  • General support to the Executive Director and Aspire team as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Teaching & Pedagogy:

  • At least one year of experience in teaching, tutoring, education, and/or youth programs with students, with a preference for experience in elementary and literacy education.
  • Demonstrated passion for literacy and youth development.
  • An orientation toward ensuring meaningful outcomes on behalf of students, with a comfort and appreciation for student data and a desire to always find new ways to improve programming.

Leadership & Relationship-Building:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work. effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and train groups of people; comfortability with public speaking.
  • Prior experience managing programs and people preferred, but not required.

General Competencies & Communication:

  • A high degree of attention to detail, follow-through, and aptitude for operations and execution.
  • Culturally competent and self-reflective, with an ability to build authentic relationships and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Spanish proficiency is a plus, but not necessary.

The Basics:

  • Familiarity with Zoom and Google Suite; willingness to learn other digital platforms.
  • Located in Bay Area, CA with ability to complete hybrid work as needed, both virtually and on-site in and around Oakland.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends required.

Schedule: Full-time, exempt work of at least 40 hours per week

Start Date: Ideally July 2024

Compensation: Compensation is $60,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience. In addition, Aspire offers an extensive benefits package with generous Paid Time Off, 11 paid holidays, medical and dental benefits, and retirement savings with limited match after one year.
