Regional Medical Director

The Regional Medical Director is a key leadership position responsible for acting as a liaison between the administration and medical staff, ensuring the credentialing process functions effectively, promoting interdepartmental collaboration, and managing daily concerns for the medical staff. This role is essential in maintaining high standards of medical staff performance and fostering a collaborative environment within the hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Medical Staff Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact between the administration and the medical staff.
  • Credentialing Process Oversight: Ensure the credentialing process, including quality and peer reviews, functions effectively.
  • Promote Collaboration: Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among social workers, nurses, and other medical staff.
  • Manage Daily Concerns: Address and resolve conflicts that arise for the medical staff.
  • Patient Experience: Identify opportunities to improve patient experience and participate in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
  • Safety: Identify opportunities to improve the Environment of Care and patient and staff safety. Participate in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.
  • Leadership: Serve as a confident, decisive, collaborative visionary leader, building partnerships between physicians and administration.
  • Clinical Quality Measures: Demonstrate extensive knowledge of clinical quality measures, including process and outcome metrics.
  • Organizational Culture: Define, lead, and serve as the role model for an organizational culture that embraces quality, productivity, process improvement, collaboration, trust, and accountability.
  • Strategic Planning: Model and implement the organization’s commitment to outstanding patient experience, strategic planning, and innovative program development.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all Joint Commission standards and requirements, including the development and implementation of a Performance Improvement program.
  • Professional Provision of Care: Responsible for the ongoing effective professional provision of clinical care for specific programs and providers as assigned by the CEO.
  • Medical Staff Policies: Ensure up-to-date medical staff policies and bylaws.
  • Regulatory Standards: Monitor all Federal and State regulatory standards as they relate to patient care.

Role Requirements:

  • Onsite: This role requires employees to be onsite at the Wausau Hospital location five days a week and does not permit hybrid or remote work.
  • Team Dynamic: There are no direct reports or staff members, but there is a Medical Staff of 300 physicians and APCs at AWH.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: MD Degree and completion of a residency program.
  • Professional Experience: 3-5 years of clinical experience and 3-5 years of leadership experience in medical staff leadership.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, strategic planning abilities, effective communication, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Additionally, the candidate must exhibit problem-solving abilities, financial acumen, and a commitment to high-quality patient care while being adaptable in a dynamic healthcare environment.
