Mid-Level Electrical Substation Engineer:
Asplundh Engineer Solutions (AES) is seeking a Substation Engineer to support our Foxboro, MA and Boonton, NJ offices on a full-time basis.
The position will maintain a range of responsibilities involving Substations, including protection and control, as well as physical design. Candidate will assist in completing assignments independently, as well as working closely with other engineering and design team members to fulfill different roles across multiple projects.
Specific responsibilities will be catered to the abilities of the candidate, and may include:
Developing electrical substation drawings, including single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, physical layouts, sections and elevations, and other related details and sketches
Performing design calculations and analysis such as grounding system analysis, lightning protection, voltage drop, power system sizing (AC and DC), and other industry standard calculations.
Working closely with designers and drafters to develop drawings of a high quality both technically and aesthetically.
Developing technical equipment and construction specifications, work scopes, estimates, and recommendation reports as needed by the project.
Working closely with Civil Engineers to develop foundation and structure drawings, including mounting patterns and equipment layouts.
Perform site visits and provide on-site technical support during construction and commissioning.
Researching and learning the design methods and standards of different customers and potential customers to provide designs and documents in line with their practices.
Participating in meetings with representatives from clients and other engineering firms.
Developing a strong relationship and establishing a trusted partnership with clients.
Qualified candidate will have experience in the above areas, and meet the below requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
3 years of experience in electrical design involving power systems.
Professional Engineering License preferred.
Good communication skills are important to the position.
Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA and other industry standards and their applicability to different types of substations.
Experience with outdoor electrical substations, power Lines, and other electrical facilities.
Proficiency with typical office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Windows
Ability and willingness to travel to clients’ offices and construction sites as needed.
Self-motivation and good time management skills in order to complete tasks and projects with a moderate amount of supervision.
Ability to use drafting software preferred.
