Association for Materials Protection and Performance is Hiring a Manager, Government Relations Near Houston, TX

SUMMARY

AMPPs Manager of Government Relations has three key responsibilities: 1) managing regulatory and legislative issues affecting the corrosion control community; 2) developing the key political relationships related to those issues; 3) managing the operations of the AMPP Institutes CORROSION PAC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Leading the development of an annual policy agenda and strategies, in collaboration with AMPP members and contracted lobbyist support
  • Developing supporting legislative and regulatory briefs, as needed
  • Tracking and assessing impact of legislative and regulatory developments that affect Association members
  • Attending Congressional hearings and committee meetings and providing concise reporting on issues of importance to the Association
  • Collaborating effectively with volunteers and regulatory personnel for developing and implementing legislative and regulatory mandates that are supported by the membership
  • Responding to member requests regarding both federal and state legislation and regulations
  • Representing the Association at committee meetings, section meetings, Institute committee meetings, and other venues related to legislative and regulatory issues
  • Developing relationships in key Congressional offices, allied organizations, agencies, and non-traditional partners
  • Preparing quarterly or biannual newsletters
  • Maintaining current, interesting content on the AMPP government relations webpages
  • Serving as staff liaison to Public Policy & Outreach Committee, writing agenda, minutes, and guiding committee officers and members on actions to take on issues and strategies
  • Planning/executing key policy events such as AMPPs Legislative Day and policy briefings. Includes: organizing keynote speakers, forums, and Corrosion Caucus panels on the Hill; leading marketing efforts; site logistics; setting meetings with congressional offices; develop and deliver training webinars for attendees, etc.
  • Developing and implementing fundraising strategies for the CORROSION PAC
  • Maintaining content of AMPP Institute CORROSION PAC webpages, including the Annual Report
  • Planning and execution of CORROSION PAC Board meetings, fundraising campaigns, and events for the AMPP Institute
  • Develops member companies/members' involvement in activities correlating with the AMPP regulatory strategies

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities required for this role.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Fundraising is a key part of this role; therefore, experience in influential communication is required.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Some travel is expected for this role.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors Degree in relevant area, or other field equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in congressional relations and experience with PAC management and fundraising.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, employees of the organization, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, etc. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to develop and interpret business graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Must possess a specific level of communication skill both verbal and written. Have demonstrated personnel management skills including, but not limited to, the ability to evaluate staff performance and provide direction, is highly desirable. Ability to work in a multitask environment taking into account various external factors and to communicate efficiently and accurately to both managers/supervisors and subordinate staff.

Must be computer literate with knowledge and experience in word processing and spreadsheet softwares. Ability to learn and use association specific software.
