Job DescriptionThe Instructional Designer reporting to the Executive Directors of Learning Technology and The Learning Engineering Institute in the Office of the University Provost will play a pivotal role in transforming teaching and learning experiences at Arizona State University. Utilizing the latest in educational technologies and grounded in sound pedagogy, this individual will create engaging and interactive instruction that appeals to a diverse audience. This includes the innovative application of artificial intelligence tools, both generative and non-generative, to enhance instructional content and pedagogy.

Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and subject matter experts to design and develop instructionally sound and engaging learning materials. This includes the use of a variety of content authoring tools, document creation applications, and presentation tools.
  • Employ advanced technologies to enhance instruction, including artificial intelligence tools for content creation and assessment. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and pedagogical trends to ensure the application of best practices in learning design.
  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff on the effective use of instructional technologies and best practices in digital pedagogy. Develop and maintain resources such as tutorials, templates, and tools for instructional development.
  • Assess the effectiveness of learning materials and technologies, implementing changes as needed to improve learner outcomes. Participate in the evaluation of training needs and the design/redesign of training programs to meet those needs.
In addition,
  • Deep knowledge of instructional design principles, learning theories, and effective pedagogical practices for diverse learning environments.
  • Skilled in the use of industry-leading technologies for the development of educational content and assessments.
  • Expertise in learning management systems and the ability to troubleshoot technology issues.
  • Ability to assess the benefits and limitations of existing and emerging technologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, research scientists, technology specialists and students.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment, prioritizing tasks and collaborating with team members to meet project goals.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Education or a related field AND Three (3) years of providing learning/instructional design and/or technology development services. Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment
The Learning Engineering Institute is housed on the Tempe Campus of ASU near downtown Tempe. Arizona State University is located in the Phoenix/Scottsdale metropolitan area and offers all of the amenities of a large urban/winter resort area.
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of a desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
