Job Summary:
As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will be responsible for providing direct care and support to individuals receiving treatment for mental health or substance abuse disorders. Working under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals, you will assist patients in developing coping skills, maintaining treatment plans, and achieving their therapeutic goals.

Responsibilities:
1. Implement treatment plans developed by licensed therapists or clinicians.
2. Monitor and document patient behavior, progress, and responses to treatment interventions.
3. Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients during individual or group therapy sessions.
4. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including meal preparation, personal hygiene, and medication management.
5. Facilitate recreational and therapeutic activities to promote socialization and skill-building.
6. Maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients, ensuring compliance with program rules and regulations.
7. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including therapists, nurses, and case managers, to coordinate patient care and treatment goals.
8. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
9. Respond appropriately to crisis situations, following established protocols for de-escalation and intervention.
10. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to ethical and legal standards of practice.

Qualifications:
- Must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Have a high school diploma and completed 40-hour training covering the RBT Task List as evidenced by a certification that includes the name of the responsible trainer, who is certified as a BCBA or BCaBA
  • Have two years of experience in providing ABA services and 40 hours of training related to ABA
  • Have a behavior analysis certification from an organization that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute
  • Have a board-certified autism technician certification (BCAT)
  • Have a certification as an RBT
  • Have a certification as a BCaBA

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients and build therapeutic relationships.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Compassion, patience, and empathy in working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
- Knowledge of basic counseling techniques, crisis intervention strategies, and behavioral management principles.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in stressful or challenging situations.
- CPR and First Aid certification may be required.

Working Conditions:
- Behavioral health technicians typically work in residential treatment facilities, psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, or community mental health centers.
- The role may involve working evenings, weekends, and holidays to provide round-the-clock care for patients.
- Physical demands may include lifting and assisting patients with mobility, as well as standing or walking for extended periods.
