ATHENA places a high value on customer service, accountability and getting the job done.Position SummaryWe are currently searching for a Director of Nursing in Lansing, Michigan. The Director of Nursing is responsible for managing the facility’s nursing program in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, applicable State and Federal regulations, and facility policies and procedures. Director of Nursing experience within a skilled nursing facility is required. We are currently offering a $15,000 Sign-on and a yearly salary of $110-000 to $115,000. Bonus Preference will be given to candidates who reside in Michigan. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Manage the Nursing Department with the goal of achieving and maintaining the highest quality of care possible.
  • Perform general management functions such as hiring, disciplining, and evaluating employees.
  • Interview and hire new nursing staff.
  • Round on unit at least once daily.
  • Plan and facilitate meetings and committees to address resident care issues.
  • Review time sheets for accuracy before payroll.
  • Develop and manage systems to assure clinical competencies.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that promote the recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education of nursing staff members.
  • Identify training needs.
  • Initiate studies to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing services in relation to their objectives and costs.
  • Develop and manage the nurse-on-call system.
  • Develop the department budget for approval, monitor expenses, and stay within budget.
  • Investigate and resolve resident, family, and employee concerns.
  • Ensure that annual competency evaluations and performance reviews are completed in the appropriate timeframe.
  • Participate in the Employee Recognition Program.
  • Proactively address survey and standards of care issues.
  • Develop and manage the staffing scheduler system.
  • Plan and guide the professional development of nursing staff.
  • Ensure that adequate nursing staff is available based on facility/census requirements.
  • Collect data to compile reports in a timely manner and meet deadlines.
  • Participate in the facility's "Performance Improvement Program."
  • Assure that all clinical protocols and nursing policies and procedures are followed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Assure pharmacy, dietary, and physician consults are followed in a timely manner.
  • Assume complete responsibility for the Center in the absence of the Administrator.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, their family members, and all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures regarding nursing standards and delivery of care.
Education And Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Valid RN license in the state employed.
  • Valid CPR certification.
  • Three years of experience as a Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, or equivalent supervisory nursing experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing as required for patient care.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Standard hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with potential for occasional evening or weekend hours.
