POSITION SUMMARY:

We are currently recruiting for a Grants Specialist. The Grants Specialist is responsible for independently coordinating, monitoring compliance and managing grants within a major program in the agency or for all programs in a district or office. Characteristic duties include maintaining active grants by determining periodic status of expenditures, fiscal trends and reporting requirements; analyzing budget spending rates and forecast year-end expenditures; fulfilling financial reporting requirements and providing technical assistance to managers, staff and contractors involved in the grant budget and implementation process and related duties as assigned. This FULL-TIME position starts at $29.41 per hour and is located in Virginia Beach, VA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

· Coordinates all payment requests with business unit in order to maintain accurate budget reporting.

· Prepares monthly and ad-hoc project statistics reports to share with the SBS Director and Program Managers.

· Monitors project budget and provides reports as needed.

· Ensures database contains current project information.

· Drafts program support documents (including reports, presentations, briefing documents, budget requests, etc).

· Responds to internal and external audit requests, conducts research and drafts responses to loan applicants.

· Implements assigned program activities in an effective and timely manner.

· Responds to inquiries regarding program and loan requirements.

· Provides superior customer assistance when dealing with internal and external customers.

· Reviews and maintains chart of accounts for grants in assigned area of responsibility.

· Reconciles all expenditures during closeout and creates journal entries as needed to correct coding used.

· Responsible for preparing, printing and mailing grant status notification letters to grantees that have not drawn down on their reimbursements. Letters will be submitted to Grant Manager for approval and signature.

  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as assigned.
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures, to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Efficiently performs duties as assigned and works as a team within division and company.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Considerable knowledge of federal, state, and private sector grants and contracts management laws, rules, regulations and guidelines of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

· Knowledge of budgeting policies, procedures, and practices; contract law, auditing standards, computer programs (including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access).

· Experience with databases and automated financial systems.

· Demonstrated analytical skills, proficiency in problem solving, organizing, and coordinating.

· Demonstrated ability to read and interpret grants; to prepare budgets and monitor fiscal transactions, provide technical assistance on complex issues; compile financial information and projections.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to organize and prioritize work.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills within the English language.
  • Proven, high quality customer service (internal and external customers).
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Solid ability to analyze situations carefully and adopt appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to the duties, methods, and procedures required by the position.

  • Ability to effectively communicate to large and small group audiences.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
