The Sustainability Technician’s responsibilities focus on two areas: Maintaining waste infrastructure before/during events and managing the Sustainability Department’s database. Candidate must be able to complete an array of physical tasks around the arena before quickly shifting to an office mentality to complete technical tasks such as, financial recaps, end market research, material cataloging, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness and inventory of waste infrastructure inside Arena.
  • Stage different types of waste infrastructure around the Arena prior to events.
  • Utilize equipment to move waste through Arena.
  • Document and organize waste data spreadsheets (Cataloging donations, hauling requirements, infrastructure locations, inventory requirements, scheduling, etc.).
  • Create and manage financial reports and recaps to track department expenses.
  • Research current sustainable trends and emerging available technologies.
  • Coordinate with local companies (Salvation Army, Goodwill, recyclers, etc.) to find optimal end markets for Arena materials.
  • Collaborate with managers to document sustainable rules, regulations, and practices for the Arena to abide by.
  • Communicate with Arena staff to maintain sustainable policy requirements.
  • Transport zero waste volunteers in and out of the Arena.
  • Utilize work order tracking software to keep track of and report the status of tasks, including pre-and post-event scheduled tasks, and responding to event-related requests as they arise.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Work efficiently and problem-solve on the go; task prioritization is key as the Arena environment is fast-paced and unpredictable.
  • Take direction from multiple people: Managers, Supervisors and Event Managers.
  • Lift, push, and pull heavy equipment (up to 100 lbs).
  • Work a non-standard schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Positive attitude and motivated to work.
  • Comfortable communicating with others on a regular basis.
  • Knowledgeable on sustainable trends and environmentally friendly practices.
  • Unaffected by getting your hands dirty and occasionally going through trash (PPE will be provided).
