About the WIn Fellowship

The unique collaboration between the Atlantic Council and Georgetown University delivers mentoring and networking opportunities with leading US and MENA experts and business executives, a custom executive education program by Georgetown University, and workshops with leading experts. The program includes a fully sponsored trip to the United States for the top participants for leadership training at Georgetown and meetings with US business and government leaders.

Overview of the Role

The Atlantic Council seeks a talented and creative Deputy Director to support the WIn Fellowship, focusing on business, entrepreneurship, and women's economic empowerment in the MENA region. The ideal candidate will have experience managing fellowships, educational/professional exchanges, or similar programs and will work closely with the WIn Fellowship Assistant Directors on all aspects of fellowship management. This key leadership role involves supporting the strategic vision and operational management of the fellowship, ensuring the successful implementation of programs and initiatives designed to support women entrepreneurs. The role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for leadership development, gender equality, and international affairs.

The ideal candidate will be well-organized, detail-oriented, and possess demonstrable experience in fundraising and communication. The Deputy Director will contribute to the development of WIn Fellowship partnerships, events, and publications, liaising with WIn Fellows, Georgetown University, and sponsors on all program aspects. Success in this role requires an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoyment of a fluid work environment. The candidate must have a proven ability to multitask, a record of coordinating multiple projects and events, excellent administrative skills, exceptional writing ability, attention to detail, and a positive attitude. Experience living or working in the Middle East region is essential.

This position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $93,000.

Job responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the calendar for each WIn Fellowship cohort, ensuring the program is executed to the highest standards.
  • Lead recruitment efforts for WIn Fellows and mentors.
  • Spearhead business development and fundraising initiatives, including updating external communications, drafting and editing concept notes and grant proposals, and preparing budgets.
  • Serve as a liaison for internal and external offices, including high-level US and foreign government officials, diplomats, business executives, board members, and internal Council employees and management.
  • Innovate and develop new ideas for improving and expanding the WIn Fellowship.
  • Coordinate and lead WIn Fellowship events (hybrid, online, and in-person) in collaboration with Atlantic Council staff and local event partners.
  • Plan the annual weeklong roadshow for top WIn Fellows to visit the United States, in collaboration with the empowerME team.
  • Oversee the creation of WIn Fellowship webpages for new cohorts, with technical support from the Atlantic Council team.
  • Manage the promotion of the WIn Fellowship on social media.
  • Conduct surveys and focus groups with WIn Fellows and mentors to gather feedback.
  • Monitor budget and spending for the WIn Fellowship.
  • Prepare narrative reports on the WIn Fellowship for funders and review financial reports provided by the Atlantic Council finance team.
  • Draft and edit blog articles, reports, and other publications.
  • Regularly communicate with funders to keep them updated.
  • Prepare briefing materials and background memos for senior members of the organization as needed.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field, such as Middle East affairs, international affairs, economics, or business.
  • Approximately 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent organizational, logistical, and fundraising skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Superior writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to represent the Atlantic Council to external constituencies, including senior officials, board members, donors, and individual and corporate members.
  • Experience managing fellowships or exchange programs is highly desired.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and expertise in women's economic empowerment, international affairs, and business/entrepreneurship.
  • Experience living or working in the Middle East region is essential.
