Route Manager Job Overview
This role is responsible for Onboarding, Developing, Coaching, Mentoring, and Performance Management of all residential drivers and helpers assigned to them. The ideal candidate will have a 2 year's experience in people management, overseeing a staff of 14 employees, and a solid understanding of transportation and logistics. Experience managing employees and DOT regulated drivers preferred. This position will spend the majority of the day in the field with frontline employees.
Scheduled hours of work for this position will vary from day-to-day and week-to-week, depending on a number of variables. Candidate must be flexible to work weekends and as early as 5:00AM or as late as 8:00PM.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Function
Onboarding
Ensuring new frontline employees have tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties
Meet with new frontline employees daily to ensure consistent communication and support of onboarding
Developing
Provide timely and consistent touchpoints with frontline employees.
Regular review of best practices to enhance daily performance
Focus on understanding and progress of frontline employee career goals
Coaching
Identify and address improvement opportunities and collaborate with frontline employees to ensure continued success
Actively practice and seek feedback on coaching conversations.
Mentoring
Lead by example to ensure safety practices are paramount with each employee and
Teaching and developing an understanding of the Atlas culture.
Performance Management
Conducts Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.
Documents and maintains records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.
Reviews and audits documentation related to route operations daily (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets), following up where appropriate.
Visits customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives where appropriate.
III. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
Valid CDL is a plus
Experience in the transportation industry overseeing drivers.
Waste industry knowledge is a plus, but not required.
Excellent leadership skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient use of computers and typing skills.
Thorough knowledge of company rules, policies, and procedures.
Customer service experience.
Ability to motivate and coach a team for performance.
Organized with high attention to detail.
Ability to work alone and with a team.
