Atlas Vineyard Management is Hiring an Assistant Vineyard Manager Near Walla Walla, WA

Job Summary: Assist with organizing and overseeing all farming and development operations, including equipment operations, spraying, fertilization, pest control and cover crop operations in a quality and cost-efficient manner consistent with Atlas’ goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operations Logistics and Supervision: (55%)

  • Schedule and direct the necessary staff, monitoring the labor force in each area to ensure proper staffing and utilization of skills. Train, monitor, and provide feedback related to staff performance and continuous development with the Regional Manager.
  • Ensure timely completion of all necessary farming practices, including pest control, cover crops, and equipment practices, to produce superior-quality fruit.
  • Assist with safety training programs with the Regional Manager and HR Manager.
  • Coordinate all equipment maintenance work requests to support farming operations, including pest control, cover crop, and irrigation operations.
  • Assist with and record pest control, cover crop, fertilizer, and equipment records with the Viticulturist.
  • Oversee the procurement, storage, and disposal of materials and supplies.
  • Participate in demos and equipment purchases.
  • Responsible for ensuring top operation conditions and the appearance of buildings and equipment necessary to support the farming operations.
  • Responsible for special projects related to development, viticultural operations, equipment operations or single workforce management as directed by the Regional Manager.
  • Take a lead role in harvest operations, planning, and implementation.
  • Assist in erosion control and frost control operations.
  • Attending annual educational seminars to upgrade your knowledge, ensure the Atlas Vineyard Management, LLC and equipment are working correctly, and provide updates to the Regional Manager and Director.
  • Maintain the equipment list for your operation.

Planning: (25%)

  • Develop the short-term (weekly and daily) work plan with the vineyard manager. This includes making all decisions required to keep the appropriate viticultural activities on schedule, organizing workflow operations by calendarizing viticultural events/activities and determining necessary resources (staff, equipment, etc.) to accomplish the viticultural goals.
  • Manage all financial issues and be accountable for unit costs, labor distribution, and budget adherence; assist in providing input into the budget process; monitor and verify expenses, preparing support materials as necessary.
  • Coordinate an equipment operation plan in conjunction with the farm plan with the Vineyard Manager.

Quality Assurance: (20%)

  • Understand all viticultural processes and standards; establish and monitor quality pest control and cover crop procedures and work performance; ensure that the vines and grapes are correctly maintained as directed by the winegrowing standards with the Management Team.
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to all Atlas and state-mandated safety policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure that the farm equipment and systems are operated and maintained at peak efficiency.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervisor, field employees, and Farm Labor Contractors.

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience: Minimum three years of experience in agricultural management, preferably in a Premium grape growing environment, and some supervisory/lead and operations planning experience. Must constantly educate and keep current with wine-growing advances and approaches. Preferred BS Degree in Agricultural Science or the equivalent years of experience, fully knowledgeable of wine varieties, types, appropriate quality level, familiarity with process flow, project management, and scheduling.

Skills: I have basic computer skills and abilities (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook). I am team-oriented and desire to work in a multi-tasking environment. I am able to prioritize and wish to work in a multi-tasking team environment.

Knowledge: Farm equipment knowledge. Excellent follow-through and project assignment skills. Ability to work well with people at all levels in the Company. Excellent verbal and written (English and Spanish) communication skills.

Physical: Able to travel by car/truck, visit multiple vineyard locations and inside the winery, and walk the vineyards (hillside and flat); able to work in various weather conditions throughout the year; ability to sit at and operate a computer for at least two-hour intervals, physically able to lift and carry 50 lbs. and work a flexible schedule (including early daytime, evening, weekends). Proven ability to have fun and install a positive outlook and humor in all relationships and activities. Strong interest in wine growing and a desire to constantly learn more about the industry and field.

Other: Must have a valid driver’s License, be insurable by the company, and be able to operate a motor vehicle safely
