Atomic Semi is Hiring a Lab Manager Near San Francisco, CA

About Atomic Semi
Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab.
It's already possible to build this with today's technology and a few simplifications. We'll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve.
We're building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We'll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.
Smaller is better. Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better.
We believe our team and lab can build anything. We've set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e-beam writers, general fabrication equipment - and whatever is missing, we'll just invent along the way.
Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.
About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lab Manager to oversee operations in our fab cleanroom. The ideal candidate will be versed in semiconductor process technology, chemicals and equipment. You'll be responsible for managing daily lab activities, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and facilitating the efficient use of resources and equipment to meet production goals.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee and administer the daily operations of the lab, ensuring all activities comply with regulatory and safety standards
  • Help design and organize the lab as we expand and bring up new equipment
  • Design and manage the inventory system to track chemicals and lab supplies
  • Own vendor relationships and manage procurement
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and calibrate cleanroom equipment to ensure optimal operation
  • Implement process improvements and troubleshoot production issues to enhance efficiency
  • Collaborate with process and engineering teams to integrate new technologies or processes into production
  • Train new employees on lab operations and safety requirements
Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or related field
  • Prior experience working in a cleanroom, chemistry lab, or related environment
  • Proficient in cleanroom protocols, safety regulations, and quality control measures
  • Detail-oriented problem-solver with strong organizational skills
Nice-to-have
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment and processes
  • Experience with high-vacuum systems
  • 3D printing, soldering, or machining experience
