Job Purpose: Responsible for a variety of grounds upkeep and maintenance duties within Attic Angel Community.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (IN ORDER OF PRIORITY):Core Maintenance Activities 60-80%:
  • Growing Season:
    • Performs grounds care duties including but not limited to tree and shrub pruning, planting (annuals, perennials, and trees), watering, bed-edging, tilling, mulching, removing weeds, lawn mowing, fertilizing, and applying pesticides where necessary.
  • Snow-Season:
    • Removes snow from sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways. De-icing/anti-icing chemical application may also be necessary. Respond to the need for snow removal during on-call hours. The operation of snow removal equipment is necessary. No shift will exceed 12 hours. See below.
  • Everyday:
    • Operates mechanical equipment including but not limited to skid steers and various attachments, zero turn mowers, RTVs/small tractors, push mowers, bed-edgers, brush cutters, and small engine equipment such as string trimmers, backpack blowers, chainsaws, snow blowers, etc.
    • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, residents, their families, volunteers (Angels), contractors/vendors, government officials, and the general public.
    • Respond to resident Work Orders with clarity and customer service while maintaining the Landscaping Standards and reinforcing the use of proper processes (WO/billing).
    • Meets the continuous quality improvement standards set by the Plant Operations Department.
    • Candidates should have appropriate work wear. (However please note that personal tools and PPE are not permitted unless authorized by the Lead Horticulturist and the Director of Plant Operations.)
Projects and Corrective Maintenance 20%:
  • Performs all Grounds preventative, and corrective maintenance duties directed by the Lead Horticulturist in a timely and professional manner consistent with our community goals.
  • Grounds projects may be delegated to you by the Lead Horticulturist. You must be able to work independently to lead small projects.
Operational Tasks 10-20%:
  • The Grounds team assists the Maintenance department when directed by the Plant Operations Director in large team activities such as set up for in-services, moving assets, or packing items in and out of storage as necessary.
  • Performs Basic Preventative maintenance of equipment including daily inspection, and regular safety inspections. Occasional need to work on small mechanical tasks like oil changes, paddle or blade changes, equipment configurations, etc.
  • Assures work areas are clean, dry, and safe for residents, staff, and visitors. Responsible for the use of temporary warning signs as needed. Organizational methods should be easily discernable to others not involved in operations.
Other >10%:
  • Participates in a weekend rotating on-call schedule, and provides emergency call response when on-call.
  • Attends required in-services and approved continuing education programs.
  • Preferred ability to work independently to make minor repairs to electrical and plumping equipment when working on directives from the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Facility and Property Services Director, Lead Horticulturist, or designee.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS & JOB EVALUATION: Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Computer proficiency is required.
  • Certification or education in Horticulture is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • 2-5 years experience working in horticultural or related professions is preferred.
  • Functional demonstration of horticultural knowledge in a basic plant ID quiz may be substituted for experience.
  • Customer service skills or experience working with the elderly are required.
  • Strong Communication skills to maintain consistent messaging to residents.
  • Ability to work in teams on a variety of cooperative tasks.
Licenses & Certifications:
  • Licensing or certification in pesticide application and chainsaw operation is preferred
  • Certifications in MEWPs or skid steer operations are applicable but not required.
