We are seeking a Communications Coordinator! This position will work closely with animals, staff, donors and other supporters, and the public to provide optimum outreach and manage communications about Auburn Valley Humane Society. This role will have significant understanding of systemic issues in animal welfare and a commitment to serving and engaging the community through a positive, non-judgmental approach.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Serving as subject matter expert on external communications and bringing a continuous mindset to operations.
  • Develop and implement engaging communication strategies and plans in alignment with Auburn Valley Humane Society’s goals.
  • Execute a results-driven social media strategy.
  • Craft compelling, brand-consistent content designed to engage target audiences and promote brand awareness and loyalty.
  • Utilize various analytical tools to monitor and evaluate the performance of communication campaigns and strategies.
  • Actively engage with and respond to followers and customers through various platforms to foster a strong community of supporters.
  • Stay abreast of the latest social media trends and technologies to ensure the brand’s online presence remains relevant and effective.
  • Regularly track and monitor online reputation and social media presence, responding appropriately to both positive and negative reviews and comments.
  • Oversee and optimize paid social media advertising campaigns to maximize their reach and effectiveness.
What you’ll need to be successful (minimum requirements):
  • Knowledge of graphic design software like Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), Canva, or Snappa for creating visually appealing content.
  • Familiarity with video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, or Final Cut Pro for crafting engaging video content.
  • Competency in using analytics tools provided by social media platforms and third-party analytics software like Google Analytics or Socialbakers.
  • Ability to interpret data, draw insights, and compile comprehensive and understandable reports.
  • Communications, outreach and/or community engagement experience required.
  • Social media content design and distribution experience.
  • High proficiency in learning new software systems.
  • Strong communication skills to demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, tact, compassion, and sound judgment to your coworkers and community members in an inclusive manner.
  • Proficiency with video and photo editing tools, digital media formats and HTML.
  • Successful community outreach in multi-cultural communities.
  • Strong copywriting and editing skills.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Able to work flexible hours, which will include weekends.
    • Proficiency with applicable software programs; able to use effectively and guide others when needed.
    • Frequent ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; hear sufficiently; reach, bend, or stoop, regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Content creation related to or on behalf of animal welfare preferred.
  • Work experience in an animal environment.
  • Program management experience in creating and effectively managing program goals, budget, and levels of service.

  • This position will come in direct contact with hostile individuals, waste and other undesirable sounds and smells. This position will come in direct contact with animals and will be exposed to animal related smells and sounds.
