The telemetry technician in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is responsible for communication of information, surveillance of arrhythmias on monitored patients, including interpreting, printing and posting telemetry strips, and facilitating effective and efficient communication in the unit. This team member is also responsible providing patient care as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) and will perform clerical duties such as registration functions to aid in the efficient operations of the unit. Must be computer proficient and work in an efficient and organized manner. Performs other duties under the direction of a registered nurse as assigned including, but not limited to, PCT and clerical duties.
ICU Telemetry Technicians work in the ICU, monitoring patients in the unit while also providing care to patients in the role of PCT. The telemetry technician is responsible for printing and interpreting telemetry strips every four hours which will be reviewed and signed off by the Registered Nurse (RN). If the telemetry technician notices any arrhythmias or cardiac changes, they will immediately notify the RN. In addition to cardiac monitoring, vital signs such as oxygen saturation and blood pressure as monitored in the unit.
Required Education

• Certified Nursing Assistant in Virginia or completion of 1st semester of clinical rotations in RN program
• Successful completion of cardiac arrhythmia courses and demonstrated competency in rhythm analysis upon hire.
• BLS

Experience

• Minimum of 6 months experience in an acute healthcare setting

Skills

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology
• Computer skills
• Annual Augusta Health educational requirements and unit specific competencies as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
• Annual telemetry competency completion at 85%.
• Proficiency in computer programs required to perform the job. This includes but is not limited to Meditech.
• Adhere to HIPAA policies, no breaches of confidentiality. No related complaints voiced on patient satisfaction surveys, no related complaints by fellow care providers of observed incidences.
