Position Overview:
Augustus Laboratory, a leading medical facility in Downers Grove, IL, is currently seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting a variety of laboratory tests, including chemistry and immunoassay analyses, while ensuring accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced clinical environment. With a minimum of two years of relevant experience, the ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a wide range of laboratory tests on biological specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples, using chemistry and immunoassay analyzers.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot chemistry and immunoassay analyzers to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and labeling, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Analyze test results, interpret findings, and accurately record data in laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Collaborate closely with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate test results and facilitate effective patient care.
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements, quality control standards, and laboratory policies and procedures to maintain compliance with accreditation agencies (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
  • Participate in proficiency testing, quality assurance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes and ensure the highest level of quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory levels of reagents, supplies, and consumables for chemistry and immunoassay analyzers, and assist with ordering and restocking as needed.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and privacy guidelines in handling patient information and laboratory records.
  • Provide training and guidance to laboratory assistants and other staff members as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized accrediting agency (e.g., ASCP) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working as a Medical Laboratory Technician in a clinical laboratory setting, with specific experience in chemistry and immunoassay analysis.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining chemistry and immunoassay analyzers, including troubleshooting instrument issues and performing routine maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing methodologies, instrumentation, and quality control principles.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
