Description

The Victim Advocate Intern at Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is responsible for providing direct services and case management to all victims of crime, regardless of ethnicity, within assigned Judicial Districts. The advocate will provide networking and outreaching to system professionals as well as to the community; and administrative tasks such as record-keeping and report writing of client services and data. Under general supervision from Victim Assistance Manager, this position must work well independently and with teams, while providing excellent, respectful, and confidential customer service and victim advocacy skills. The Victim Advocate Intern will build relationships with various service provider agencies and advance a policy agenda within the criminal justice system or victim advocacy that will benefit the AANHPI, immigrant, and refugee communities in Colorado.

Schedule: Minimum of 16 hours per week up to 20 hours. Hours will typically be worked Monday - Friday during business hours, occasionally weekends and evenings for special community events

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct services through crisis intervention, support, safety planning, and criminal justice advocacy based on victims’ needs and assessments. This position is required to be on call for the 24-hour crisis line on a rotating basis.
  • Must follow and accommodate to main office and any other satellite office schedules.
  • Report victim cases and updates to the Director of the Victim Assistance Department on a biweekly basis.
  • Network with court, law enforcement, and other victim assistance agencies.
  • Oversee and maintain confidential client records.
  • Develop, and maintain relationships with multiple judicial districts first-line responders to crime victims, such as law enforcement.
  • Assist in developing, monitoring, and evaluating progress towards program goals and objectives.
  • Provide appropriate referral information to victims.
  • Contribute to administrative tasks and additional projects as needed.

Qualifications


Intern Required Qualifications:

  • Must be pursing a Bachelor's or a Master's Degree. 
  • Must have an interest in victim or human services;
  • Must commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week;
  • Must commit to a minimum of six months;
  • Must complete online OVC 40-hour training prior to the start date;
  • Must maintain a high standard of confidentiality and respect for others;
  • A patient, calm, positive attitude and disposition;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and report writing skills; and
  • Ability to execute independent judgment, organize and execute work with minimal guidance and meet established deadlines in a fast-paced, high output environment

Intern Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual
  • Prior experience or demonstrate knowledge of victim advocacy and crisis intervention
  • Strong computer and analytical skills, utilizing Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and other software.

Required Vaccinations and TB Test.

AMHR has prioritized the health and safety of our clients and staff and requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, receive an annual influenza (flu) shot, and receive negative TB test results prior to their first day of hire. Proof of both vaccinations and negative TB test will be required upon your first day of employment.
