The Parts Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the parts department and running an efficient department. He or she accomplishes objectives through the use of proper purchasing procedures, inventory control, staff utilization, and security. Manages parts operations within the organization to provide the highest level of external and internal control while maximizing profitability on investment through parts purchasing, inventory control, and expense control.
Responsibilities:
Develops, communicates, enforces, and monitors effective Parts Department processes
Creates annual Parts Department goals and budget, in alignment with the organization’s financial and operational objectives
Maintains an accurate and effective parts inventory control system that includes a perpetual and annual physical inventory and proper procedures
Submits all parts warranty and return claims within the required time frame to receive maximum credit
Maximizes use of all order discount programs to achieve management stock order goals
Ensures all department tools, equipment, and vehicles are in good working order
Manages cores, and recovers credit reimbursement
Analyze opportunities for improvement, department is running efficiently and eliminate excess
Review budget and department performance reports
Review inventory reports for accurate stocking levels and usage reports
Supervises quarterly and periodic inventory counts
Monitors and maintains current levels of inventory
Approves department purchase orders (department expenditures)
Studies trends to determine how to induce cost savings in the department
Forecasts goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them
Develops strategies for more efficient operations
Monitors and adjusts inventory to minimize obsolescence
Motivates, trains, evaluates, coaches, and counsels employees
Conducts meetings with employees to discuss activities and address issues blocking success
Enforces policies and procedures
Strives for harmony and teamwork with all other departments
Works with Service Manager to ensure a timely turnaround of parts needed for internal jobs
Calls and Meetings to provide and maintain excellent vendor relations
Qualifications:
Ability to use standard desktop load applications such as Microsoft Office and Internet functions
Ability to write and speak effectively to individuals and groups
Basic understanding of financial principles relative to Parts Department operations
Ability to analyze and interpret internal reports
Ability to effectively lead and work as a member of a team
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
Must be highly self-motivated & have excellent problem-solving skills.
Strong computer & communication skills are required
Provide ongoing direction and support to suppliers and employees.
