Autry Museum of the American West is Hiring a FACILITIES MANAGER Near Los Angeles, CA

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of all the Autry Museum campuses, including the Resources Center in Burbank, Southwest, and Casa.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled professional with extensive hands-on experience coordinating staff and contractors, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional work environment, and being second in command when the Director of Facilities is unavailable. This position will be vital in maintaining building systems, identifying, and resolving maintenance issues, and implementing preventative maintenance plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist the director with overseeing Facilities staff work schedules, scheduling work orders, and performing preventative maintenance duties and projects.
  • Scheduling the maintenance, repairs, and all accessories relating to the operation of power plant equipment.
  • Interact with trade contractors, trade vendors, Los Angeles City utility officials, Autry Museum Administration staff, Autry Museum trustee members, Autry Museum staff, and the public.
  • Participate in special event Facilities duties and work schedules. Must be flexible with a work schedule on occasion.
  • Participate in after-hour emergency on-call duties.
  • May be asked to provide work coverage for special event programs throughout the year.
  • Other duties as assigned by the facilities department and the Director of Facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must demonstrate the following education and experience:

  • Completion of a two (2) or four (4) year degree program in a related field of study required.
  • At least five (5) years of “hands-on” work experience in various trades, such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and power plant operation (boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressors, building management systems), and equipment is required.
  • A combination of ten (10) years of supervisory experience with maintenance staff, tradespeople, contractors, city and fire inspectors, and municipalities.

Candidates must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • A boiler's license would be helpful but not necessary to handle this position immediately; however, a license will be required to oversee the “standards of operation,” such as AQMD testing requirements, EPA requirements, and the overall boiler operation.
  • Membership in various associations will also be considered to assist with maintaining current operational trends, safety operations, industry standards, and code updates.
  • Excellent communication skills – the ability to effectively communicate with a professional demeanor, both verbally and in writing (via email or other electronic messaging)
  • Management skills – the ability to supervise a team, provide clear and concise direction, constructive feedback, and the ability to administer progressive disciplinary actions when required.
  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude during challenging situations, remaining highly motivated and results oriented.
  • The ability to perform physical labor as needed and safely lift items up to 50 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds assisted.
  • The ability to bend, squat, walk, and stand for long periods (up to two hours at a time).
  • The ability to climb ladders, crawl into small spaces, work at various heights wearing safety equipment, and, on occasion, work in wet, cold, or hot environments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to stand for long periods (2 hours).
  • Must be physically capable of responding to public emergencies.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds assisted.
  • Requires the use of a computer.
  • Required travel to Autry campuses as noted.
