Avalon Center is Hiring a Youth Advocate Near Williamsburg, VA

If you enjoy working with children and youth, and truly want to make a difference for them, this job is for you! We will provide comprehensive training, a family friendly work environment and plenty of opportunities to grow, for the right candidate. This position will open early in July and will remain open until filled. Reports to the Director of Youth Services.

Works as a part of the Avalon Youth Services team in a variety of community settings, providing awareness and education activities for children and youth of all ages.

Provides advocacy and case management as needed for children and youth at the emergency shelter or in the community who are primary or secondary victims of domestic or sexual violence.

Provides information and referral, acting as a liaison between children and community partners as assigned. Collaborates with counselors and other staff, partner agencies, and school personnel to facilitate wrap-around services.

Cultivates good relationships within Avalon and with the community. Maintains knowledge of local and regional agencies and resources. Attends community meetings as a representative of Avalon, as assigned.

Training provided.

  • Requirements:

College education in child development or a related field required.

Comfortable public speaker.

Experience working with youth in crisis intervention preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual individuals are encouraged to apply.

Strong computer, internet and social media experience preferred.

Pre-employment criminal background clearances required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
