Job SummaryThe Technology Supervisor is responsible for staffing, supervision, direction, training, and evaluation of R&D support staff. The Technology Supervisor directs and manages multiple lab operations including compounding, sample preparation, testing, and material inventory management, and ensures all lab activities are conducted in a safe manner and in full compliance with Company and ISO standards and Policies. The Technology Supervisor is also a key leader and contributor to continuous improvement via Capex, LSS, and others improvement projects.
Essential Functions
  • Safely ensures all lab operation activities are being performed efficiently and effectively.
  • Identifies and solves any issues or problems with equipment or personnel.
  • Recommends and drives formula improvements, equipment, and engineering revisions.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with Scientist, Engineers, and ADTS, to ensure sample production schedules are met.
  • Coordinates with Scientists to publish process condition in electronic lab notebooks, updating these conditions and maintaining the process conditions database.
  • Produces all electronic lab notebook paperwork as required for sample production.
  • Coordinates and administers all aspects of training for new hires as well as long-term associates.
  • Complies with and enforces all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures efficient use of staffing by effective planning of vacation schedules and arranging the required coverage when necessary.
  • Administers performance appraisals for lab support associates. Establishes, communicates, and provides timely feedback to assigned workforce on objectives, goals, and expectations.
  • Ensures complete and accurate information is entered into EKB and SFDC in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and corrects information in e-Time for timekeeping of lab associates' hours.
  • Ensures lab area housekeeping is always maintained in accordance with housekeeping guidelines.
  • Ensures that EH&S safety protocols and procedures are maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
  • High School diploma or GED equivalency, bachelor’s in Engineering, Chemical, Polymer preferred
  • 10 years in manufacturing and/or R&D setup. 15 years preferred.
  • 5 years in supervisory roles, 10 years preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize time and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and product recipes/material identifications.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate one-on-one and with Team.
  • Self-motivated, team player with stress management and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products and SAP.

  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise levels to loud.
Environmental, Health, Safety, & Security (EHS&S) Requirements
  • Avient integrates EHS&S into all aspects of our operations. Each position at Avient is responsible for complying with all applicable EHS&S requirements. Additionally, employees and management are responsible for reporting all EHS&S incidents immediately to ensure we keep EHS&S a priority within the organization.
