POSITION PURPOSE:

Certified Nurse Midwife/CNP position functions in an out-patient primary health care clinic and in-patient labor and delivery setting. Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Certified Nurse Midwife/CNP provides gynecological, obstetrical, labor and delivery care within the CNMW and CNP scope of practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides prenatal and postnatal care to pregnant women; offers emotional support for expectant and new mothers.
  • Tends to patients and newborns during labor and delivery.
  • Performs routine gynecological care, including exams.
  • Performs history taking, physical examination, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment planning within their scope of practice; reviews and assesses the patient medical history, including health habits and disease history; counsels patients regarding general physical and emotional concerns.
  • Provides patient education through handouts and discussion of patient concerns during office visits. Instructs patient/family regarding medication and treatment directions, including basic principles of healthy lifestyles and health risk reduction with patient encounter.
  • Provides consultation by telephone or in person to patients and medical personnel.
  • Educates patients on parenting and family planning.
  • Orders diagnostic testing as indicated; interprets results of diagnostic testing and plans appropriate follow-up with individual patients, with consideration given their physical, emotional, and financial resources.
  • Plans and provides routine immunizations.
  • Prescribes selective medications in accordance with prescriptive privileges. Administers medications and injections accordingly. Responds to requests for medication refills in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and refers patients to specialists when necessary.
  • Maintains a complete and legible medical record, to include timely documentation of each patient visit.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with advanced preparation as a Nurse Practitioner; Master’s degree required
  • Current licensure in the state of Oregon as a registered nurse, with certification in the state of Oregon as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges.
  • Current certification with the American Midwifery Certification Board.
  • Holds current DEA license.
