Who we are | Ko wai mātou:

Awanui Labs - Canterbury (previously known as Canterbury SCL) is a part of Awanui Group, the largest network of human and veterinary pathology laboratories in New Zealand. Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

The Collection Centre Supervisor will work closely with the Patient Services Team Leaders and report directly to the Patient Services Head of Department. The role will be predominately based at one designated collection centre. Although flexibility to move centres as needed is required.

To be successful in this role you must be a registered MLPAT and have a professional and positive approach to work, be accurate and methodical, have excellent attention to detail and be keen to take on more responsibility.

You will be a highly competent phlebotomist with good communication skills. The role requires management, training and mentoring of collection centre staff and operational responsibilities.

  • Be disciplined and self-motivated
  • Have a positive outlook and an adaptable approach to work
  • Possess effective interpersonal and time management skills
  • Use your initiative to solve problems and make decisions appropriately
  • Use your skills to find ways to improve processes continually
  • Experience using collection centre computer programs e.g. CMS
  • Have an excellent eye for detail
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and privacy in a healthcare setting
