About The Role

The Construction Manager position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of distribution operations within an assigned area, including safety, production rates, contractual compliance, customer relations, growth, employee development, and financial performance. This position is responsible for monitoring project key performance indicator metrics and ensuring consistent application of safety rules, work methods, and company processes across the various crews and work areas. This position has oversight of distribution personnel, equipment, and projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership consistent with B&B’s emphasis on Human Performance and B&B’s Core Values: Safety, Quality, Integrity, & Professionalism.
  • Manage the day to day distribution operations to ensure safe and quality execution of projects and services to customers
  • Review and respond to RFIs and RFPs for new and existing customers including attending pre-bid meetings, developing rates and submitting bids
  • Redline contracts and service agreements to capture specific assumptions and exceptions to contract language to align with the company’s best interest and performance
  • Perform ongoing analyses of projects and contracts to ensure positive operational and financial performance
  • Develop and implement strategic, proactive plans to further growth and continuous improvement
  • Ensure all company goals, processes, and initiatives are communicated and supported throughout the department
  • Provide consistent leadership in the area of safety and perform field safety observations to develop/maintain relationships in the field, observe work methods, and influence a positive safety culture
  • Ensure projects are completed according to schedule, budget and in compliance with design and construction standards provided by customer
  • Work closely with the Estimating & Project Management team to support bid development and reviews, plan-0f-day calls, project status reviews, and project closeout.
  • Work with the Fleet and Purchasing Departments to ensure the departments equipment and tooling needs are met cost-effectively
  • Work closely with the Human Resources and Safety & Training Departments to development training and employee development plans to support continued growth of skilled positions and departmental leadership
  • Serve as a professional point of contact for customers, potential customers and storm restoration requests. Negotiates with customers for satisfactory terms and resolutions.
  • Be a representative of B&B at work and in the community. Professional and ethical conduct are expected
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, outlining timelines, milestones, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential challenges and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring adherence to financial constraints.
  • Monitor and control construction costs, seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising quality and safety.
  • Supervise and allocate resources efficiently, including labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure work meets or exceeds industry standards and project specifications.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address construction defects or deviations from plans.
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures to create a secure working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Maintain clear and open communication with project stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress.
  • Resolve issues and conflicts among project team members, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage construction schedules, ensuring that projects are completed on time.
  • Identify potential delays and implement strategies to mitigate schedule risks.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and project reports.
  • Generate regular status reports for project stakeholders.

Key Qualifications

  • High school diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Ten years of applicable electrical utility and/or electrical contractor industry experience
  • Four years of supervisory/management experience leading people and teams
  • Prior experience managing the financial performance of a team
  • Prior experience interacting with customers on a professional level
  • Thorough understanding of electric utility safety and operational procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of Distribution overhead and underground systems, operating methods, construction, maintenance, switching, safety, tools, equipment and work methods
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point)
  • Strong organizational leadership skills; ability to work with others without direct authority
  • Excellent reading comprehension and interpretation abilities
  • Problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Key Nice-To-Haves

  • Experience estimating, engineering and/or bidding jobs
  • Experience in project management and project oversight

Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based and while in the field performing the duties of this job, the employee is infrequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, and extreme weather conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position. Hours of work are typically 50 hours per week but are dependent upon the needs of the job. This position is located in Louisiana with oversight of various work locations in Louisiana. This position frequently requires long hours. MUST be willing to travel frequently.

Travel

This position is frequently required to travel overnight within the workweek to meet with customers and develop/maintain relationships with field personnel. Extended-length travel may be necessary to support storm restoration efforts.
